In as many as 3 million U.S. women with coronary heart disease, cholesterol plaque may not build up into major blockages, but instead spreads evenly throughout
the artery wall. As a result, diagnostic coronary angiography reveals that these women have “clear” arteries—no blockages—incorrectly indicating low risk.
Despite this, many of these women have a high risk for heart attack, according to newly published research from the National Institutes of Health.

Context Pregnancy has historically been described as a time of emotional well-being, providing "protection" against psychiatric disorder. However, systematic
delineation of risk of relapse in women who maintain or discontinue pharmacological treatment during pregnancy is necessary.
Objective
To describe risk of relapse in pregnant women who discontinued antidepressant medication proximate to conception compared with those who maintained treatment with these medications.
Design, Setting, and Patients
A prospective naturalistic investigation using longitudinal psychiatric assessments on a monthly basis across pregnancy; a survival analysis was conducted to determine time to relapse of depression during pregnancy. A total of 201 pregnant women were
enrolled between March 1999 and April 2003 from 3 centers with specific expertise in the treatment of psychiatric illness during pregnancy. The cohort of women was recruited from (1) within the hospital clinics, (2) self-referral via advertisements and community outreach detailing the study, and (3) direct referrals from the community. Participants were considered eligible if they (1) had a history of major
depression prior to pregnancy, (2) were less than 16 weeks' gestation, (3) were euthymic for at least 3 months prior to their last menstrual period, and (4)
were currently or recently (<12 weeks prior to last menstrual period) receiving antidepressant treatment. Of the 201 participants, 13 miscarried, 5 electively
terminated their pregnancy, 12 were lost to follow-up prior to completion of pregnancy, and 8 chose to discontinue participation in the study.
Main Outcome Measure
Relapse of major depression defined as fulfilling Structured Clinical Interview for DSM-IV [Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fourth Edition] Diagnosis (SCID) criteria.
Results
Among the 201 women in the sample, 86 (43%) experienced a relapse of major epression during pregnancy. Among the 82 women who maintained their medication throughout their pregnancy, 21 (26%) relapsed compared with 44 (68%) of the 65 women who
discontinued medication. Women who discontinued medication relapsed significantly more frequently over the course of their pregnancy compared with women who maintained their medication (hazard ratio, 5.0; 95% confidence interval, 2.8-9.1; P<.001).
Conclusions
Pregnancy is not "protective" with respect to risk of relapse of major depression. Women with histories of depression who are euthymic in the context of ongoing
antidepressant therapy should be aware of the association of depressive relapse during pregnancy with antidepressant discontinuation.

As a rule a family became a good friend for the student.
It is very important to us that our students are happy in their accommodation, whether in host families, self catering shared student apartments (sharing an apartment with other students) or in private studio apartments.

Scholarship recipients enroll in programs of study that cover a range of human rights and development issues at the non-doctoral graduate level including gender, reproductive health, HIV/AIDS, child exploitation, human and drug trafficking, infant and maternal mortality, microbial diseases, conflict resolution, environmental justice, global fair trade, agroecology, and sustainable development.

Cherbourg School of Engineering organises its 5th European Summer University on the new thematic "From Innovation towards Industrial Production". The programme includes the teaching, accommodation, catering, excursions and nautical activities from the 25th of June until the 14th of July.
Cost: just 100 euros all included for the students from Eastern Europe countries and 300 euros from Western Europe countries.
The objective of this European Summer University is to increase the awareness of the students about the importance of Innovation towards the role of Industrial Production in our modern economy. The programme deals with subjects and developed abilities in which women traditionally have a strong interest. The students with a scientific and technological background will find these courses open up to new professional prospects.
Courses will be taught in English or French (with an English translator) according to the nationality of the lecturer. Working documents and Powerpoint presentations will be proposed in English by all the lecturers. The European Summer University will also be integrated into a particularly rich cultural framework during this month of July 2006.
Events are organised around the historical patrimony of the region like the Mont Saint Michel, the City of the sea, the Memorial in Caen and the historical landing beaches.
Because La Manche is a department with a 350km coastline, nautical activities are almost unavoidable. The students will practise catamaran, sand yachting and sea-kayak during the week-ends. For the 3-week period, the registration cost for the tuition is 300 euro, 100 euro for the students from the Eastern Europe countries : -Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Bielorussia, Ukraine, Czech Republic, Slovakia,
Hungary, Romania, Moldavia, Bulgaria, Croatia.

The Terry Sanford Institute of Public Policy long has been a national leader on issues related to non-profits and public policy. With generous seed funding from The Atlantic Philanthropies (USA), the Institute has established a new initiative, the Joel L. Fleishman Fellows in Civil Society, created in honor of Joel Fleishman, the founding Director of the Institute, current professor of law and public policy studies and director of the Institute's Samuel and Ronnie Heyman Center for Ethics, Public Policy and the Professions, recently retired president of The Atlantic Philanthropies (USA), and accomplished leader in the field of public policy and philanthropy.
Structure of Fellowship
The Fellowship provides a select group of leaders from domestic non-profit organizations, international non-governmental organizations, foundations, government, socially responsible businesses, and other civil society groups in the United States and internationally with the opportunity to come in residence at the Sanford Institute for a four-week mini-sabbatical. Full-time academics are not eligible to apply. While at Duke, Fellows perform research and work with Institute faculty and other Duke affiliates on issues relating to the development of civil society.
Applicants are selected based upon their proposed research project and other application materials as listed below. As part of the Fellowship, housing and program expenses are covered. The Erasmus of Rotterdam Chair at Warsaw University announces second open call for articles. The best articles and essays will be published in April 2006. The main theme which should be addressed in the submitted texts refers to the second Tischner Debate, 'On Inequality'.
Texts may have a broad approach, ranging from the humanities to the social sciences, philosophy of politics, history of ideas, political science and others.
At most, 10 texts will be published online. Authors of the three best articles or essays will receive cash prizes funded by the Leopold Kronenberg Foundation. In addition, the editorial boards of ResPublica Nowa and Transit – Europäische Revue have expressed their interest in publishing selected articles.
The president of jury of the competition is prof. Krzysztof Michalski, rector of the IWM.

With IIE as its administrative partner, the Alcoa Foundation has launched a unique signature fellowship program to advance knowledge in the field of conservation and sustainability. Alcoa Foundation is announcing the opening of the second global competition for Practitioner Fellowships. Practitioner Fellowships are designed to provide a non-degree opportunity for qualified mid-level individuals from NGOs with a chance to conduct six-month long intensive applied research projects in conservation and sustainability, under the mentoring of an expert in the field.
Practitioner Fellows will be mentored by experts from Sustainability Institutes selected as partners in the Fellowship Program. Twelve six-month Fellowships will be awarded in each year in 2005-2009. Each Fellow will receive a six-month grant of $12,500 for research and travel expenses.
Three Sustainability Institutes will mentor 4 Practitioner Fellows each as they complete six-month research projects in their home countries. The three sustainability Institutes are: IUCN - The World Conservation Union in Gland,

By promoting and providing a home for cross-disciplinary engagement and collaboration, the CSLC will

In addition to hosting the Residency Program, the Gibraltar Point Centre for the Arts features Artscape Lodge; a short-term rental service with accommodation and work studios for up to 13 visiting artists.
Toronto Island is a peaceful 230-hectare natural park in Toronto's harbour, a short 15-minute ferry ride from the thriving downtown core of Canada's cultural capital. The Island is part of the Carolinian Zone which includes flora and fauna not found anywhere else in Canada. Naturalized areas and wildlife reserves make it a popular stopover point for southern song birds. The Island is also home to approximately 800 individuals whose remarkable community boasts one of the highest per capita populations of artists in Canada and is the largest urban car-free community in North America.

The Alliance of Social, Political, Ethical, and Cultural Thought (ASPECT) at Virginia Tech in partnership with the International Social Theory Consortium, (ISTC) will host the 7th Annual ISTC Conference May 18-21, 2006, in Roanoke, Virginia at The Hotel Roanoke & Conference Center.
The objective of this annual conference is to provide a forum for multidisciplinary dialogue between social theorists of all disciplines and occupations. The conference organizers invite paper and panel proposals from a variety of theoretical perspectives and intellectual traditions, and especially welcomes proposals that continue the Consortium's dialogue among theorists working in the Global South and North. This conference also explicitly welcomes social activists engaged in transforming power relationships at various scales. As this year's host, ASPECT is particularly interested in inviting panels that embrace in equal measure social,
political, ethical and cultural theory in relationship to the conference theme.

The Alliance of Social, Political, Ethical, and Cultural Thought (ASPECT) at Virginia Tech in partnership with the International Social Theory Consortium, (ISTC) will host the 7th Annual ISTC Conference May 18-21, 2006, in Roanoke, Virginia at The Hotel Roanoke & Conference Center.
The objective of this annual conference is to provide a forum for multidisciplinary dialogue between social theorists of all disciplines and occupations. The conference organizers invite paper and panel proposals from a variety of theoretical perspectives and intellectual traditions, and especially welcomes proposals that continue the Consortium's dialogue among theorists working in the Global South and North. This conference also explicitly welcomes social activists engaged in transforming power relationships at various scales. As this year's host, ASPECT is particularly interested in inviting panels that embrace in equal measure social,
political, ethical and cultural theory in relationship to the conference theme.
Previous ISTC conferences have been hosted in Singapore, Toronto, Tampa, Dubrovnik, Sussex and Lexington, Kentucky.
Possible sub-themes to be addressed may include, but are not limited to the following.

Workshop on Education Issues, March 2006, Prague
Journalists in Central and Eastern Europe, Central Asia, and the Caucasus are encouraged to apply for a workshop on education issues in Prague, Czech Republic.
Successful applicants will spend two and a half days learning about education issues in the region and getting practical advice on covering the topic. Workshop leaders will include experts in the field and experienced journalism trainers.
The workshop will take place March 23-25.
Twenty-four journalists will be accepted. Twelve will come from Central Asia, the Russian Federation, and the Caucasus, with the remaining 12 coming from Central and Eastern Europe, the Baltics, and Southeastern Europe. Travel and lodging expenses will be paid by Transitions Online, the media development NGO and Internet magazine.
Applicants should be working journalists, either covering education or with a strong interest in the topic. Basic English skills are necessary.
To apply, please send an email to education@tol.org, with your CV, a brief letter in English explaining why you want to participate in this program, and at least one published article, preferably on an education-related topic. Stanford University seeks 9 - 10 post-doctoral Teaching Fellows for 2006-07. Teaching Fellows lead seminar discussions for Introduction to the Humanities (IHUM) lecture courses that fulfill Stanford's year-long liberal arts requirement for freshmen. IHUM courses build intellectual foundations in humanistic study, and enhance skills in textual analysis, reasoning, argumentation, and oral and written expression. Interdisciplinary, thematic courses in autumn quarter are followed by disciplinary two-quarter course sequences in winter and spring. Equal Opportunities International (EOI, established in 1982, now with a new
editorial board) is a double-blind peer reviewed journal, which publishes original, critical and scholarly papers that make theoretical and methodological contributions to our understanding of equal opportunities, discrimination, diversity and inclusion in society, organisation or work from any cognate perspective within social sciences or humanities.
Paper submissions should make original, critical and, scholarly contributions to the theory, policy and/or methods in equal opportunities. Each paper should be firmly located in relevant academic literature and its key contribution should be clearly expressed. The articles must be original pieces of work that are not under consideration for publication or that have not been published elsewhere. The authors are required to write in plain English language and in a style that is free from technical terms.
We appreciate that the framing of equity issues is directly influenced by the local historical and socio-political contexts and encourage authors to consider their particular location in their submission and contributions. The papers should seek to appeal to both scholars in the field of equal opportunities and practitioners including equal opportunities, diversity and inclusion officers and policy makers from private, publics and voluntary sector organizations. The EOI is committed to social inclusion and social justice.
Journal Overview
Equal opportunities and its allied concepts, including inequality, inequity,
disadvantage, diversity, and inclusion, have been studied extensively as all
disciplines of social sciences and humanities. The promulgation of interest in the field of inequality owes much to the awareness that was brought about by the earlier human and civil rights and feminist movements which have engendered legal and social reforms that provided protection against unfair forms of discrimination. The advent of legal and social reforms in the field, as well as the broadening of the theory of equal opportunities to include a wider range of inequalities based on sex, race, disability status, age, sexual orientation, marital status, nationality and social class have all contributed to the general growth of scholarly interest in the
field. EOI engages with this interest, offering a platform for full and rigorous
exploration of equal opportunities concerns including gender, ethnicity, class, disability, age, sexual orientation and other nascent and incipient forms of inequalities in the context of society, organisation and work.
It is important to acknowledge that there are some dichotomies between the reality and rhetoric of equal opportunities, the forms of practitioner and the academic knowledge in the field, scholarly approaches to equal opportunities across disciplines of social sciences and humanities, as well as their use of concepts and methods in order to uncover inequalities, and offer strategies for change towards equality of opportunity, valuing of diversity or pursuit of social inclusion. Further, there is a widening of the gap between studies that adopt micro-agentic, meso-institutional and macro-national approaches to the study of equal opportunities.
In this context, the journal, EOI, seeks to serve as a proverbial bridge across the spectrum of scholarly research which is allied with equal opportunities and facilitate development of the academic field, by establishing a dialogue across its methodological, theoretical, applied and philosophical silos. This is only possible through collective efforts of the editorial board, reviewers, authors and readers of the journal towards supporting the scholarly rigour and relevance of the journal.
Paper Procedure: The journal houses four types of contributions: (1) double-blind
peer refereed papers, which are received through its paper submission system, (2) commissioned seminal works from eminent scholars by invitation only (these papers will also be subject to double blind peer review), (3) practitioner insights from professional workers in the field and (4) book reviews and conference reports with prior agreement with the relevant editors. Upon receipt, the paper submission will be reviewed by the main editor, and if considered of suitable standard it will be sent for refereeing to two reviewers, based on its classification by disciplinary and geographic focus. When the two referees´ comments are received, the editor
may decide to accept the paper, ask for revisions or reject it.

The "Demographic and Social Change Program", a joint initiative of Kansas Population Center and Echo Survey Institute, is a program dedicated to study the interrelationships between population processes and social change in East European countries. The conference theme Experiences of Men refers both to men's experiences in different
fields of life and experiences of men and women, including researchers, in their
encounters with men and the norms of masculinities. How do men and women as active agents interpret and respond to the norms of masculinity that surround them? A variety from extreme to everyday experiences will be discussed in the lectures, panels and workshops, including themes such as men's health, men of different ages, power and emotion in organisations, men's experiences of love, friendship and intimacy and cultural representations of male embodiment.
The concepts of experience and masculinity or masculinities are located in a field of
tension between modernist and poststructuralist thinking, which shall be explored in the conference. Experiences of research on men bring forth the epistemologies and
methodological challenges of the field. Are there specific methods in men's studies? Are they needed and why? Are some method(ologie)s more useful than others in grasping
experiences? How much can be captured in verbal accounts?
The conference language is primarily English, but individual sessions may be organised in the Scandinavian languages. Submissions of individual papers in English
and the Scandinavian languages are accepted, but participants are encouraged to
accept presentation in English should that turn out to be the language of their panel.
Keynote speakers include, among others, PhD Fidelma Ashe from

This is the first scholarly gathering in the United States dedicated to the specific practice of underground anti-establishment literature and artistic activities that flourished from the mid-1950s through the 1980s. The conference aims to assemble experts in the field from both the US and abroad to offer a comparative study of the variety of literary and artistic practices in the Eastern Block countries, and to offer a critical approach towards their national specificity and formative socio-political factors.
The conference is a bi-partite event. The first part will comprise a day-long Samizdat workshop (first of its kind in the US) led by representatives of the largest collections of Samizdat materials, including the Open Society Archives in Budapest, who will present and discuss their holdings, followed by a reading of Vaclav Havel's 1978 underground play "Protest."
The second day will comprise scholarly presentations organized in three panels with three speakers each. The presenters will include leading scholars from Belgium, Bulgaria, Hungary, Canada, the Czech Republic, and the US, as well as representatives of the Penn community (including faculty and a graduate student in Art History).
The panels will feature original article-length (20-30pp.) papers by each participant, which will be pre-circulated to conference participants and audience members. Participants will present 20-25-minute summaries of their papers, making possible a compact event with time for productive discussion.

Tomorrow People Organization is proud to announce its second, annual, intercultural Encounters Study Abroad Summer Program, taking place from June 19- July 17 2006 in Zagreb and Zadar, Croatia. This year’s program is organized in collaboration with a student organization e-STUDENT, founded at the Graduate school of Business and Economics, University of Zagreb.
Intercultural Encounters is a comprehensive four-week program open to achieving undergraduate students from around the world. Through challenging university courses, exposing cultural activities, and revealing community service, the students will join our international and highly accredited faculty in a journey to explore the understanding of cultures, and the impact globalization has on different spheres of our lives. Participants will have the opportunity to meet other young achievers from around the world, and gain the leadership skills necessary for today’s global citizenship.
The university courses are an integral part of the program. The course on Multiculturalism is mandatory for all participants and in addition, each student takes one more course Sustainable Tourism, or International Relations—Diplomacy. These courses are taught in English and are fully accredited. The transcripts are issued by University of Zagreb—the oldest university in South East Europe.
The cost of the program is 2200 USD and includes: tuition, housing, breakfast, fieldtrips, workshops, community service projects and cultural activities. Due to our commitment to accessibility, we strive to minimize tuition in all of our non-profit programs.

The student governance body of the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Latvia and the European Forum of Journalism Students are pleased to announce
that in May 2006, they are organising an international forum for students of journalism and communications studies in cooperation with the Netherlands Royal
Embassy. The aim of the forum is to promote an exchange of ideas among students in various countries when it comes to research and professional work.
The organisers hope that presentations and debates will merge theory and practice as much as possible, and the emphasis at the forum will be the study of cases which make it possible to learn about the specifics and problems of media operations in various European countries.
Requirements
Potential participants in the forum are requested to submit a summary of their presentation – 100 to 300 words long in English. The summary must clearly
define a problem which relates to practice, and it must also mention the possible solutions to the problem. The applicant must also define the main keywords which relate to the subject that is to be presented.

The fourth annual multidisciplinary Middle East & Central Asia Politics, Economics, and Society Conference will be held during September 7-9, 2006. Since its inception in 2003, the conference has successfully brought together academics (professors
and advanced graduate students), analysts, policy makers, and NGO workers interested in the two regions of Middle East and Central Asia/Caucasus in order to network and share research interests.
This year, the organizers expect to accommodate as many as 150 research papers from around the world divided into nearly 40 panels. There will also be two plenary presentations, one of which will be delivered by Professor Dru C. Gladney of the University of Hawaii-Manoa and entitled: "China Faces Central Asia: A New Chapter in the Great Game?"
The three-day event will also include a presentation by an Ambassador to the US from one of the two regions. Other attractions include three complimentary meals, an evening of Middle Eastern and Central Asian music and art, a book fair, and the screening of recently released films and documentaries on the Middle East and Central Asia.
PANEL THEMES: The conference encompasses and encourages interdisciplinary social science approaches to analysis and problem-solving. Panel themes may fall within, but are not necessarily limited to, the following:

All participants will be required to pay a conference participation fee of $65 (and a late fee of up to $100) with due dates to be given out in a later time.

The symposium will convene at the United Nations, New York and will involve 400 young professionals, diplomats, and students from world Universities and Colleges. The three-day event will discuss the proposed UN reform and its importance for meeting the UN Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
Scholarships are available for the top ten (10) participants who display individual determination, signify collective accomplishments, and produce the most notable post-symposium position papers. The best-three (3) participants out of the ten (10) will be rewarded with scholarships in the form of an all expenses paid trip to be part of a delegation at ATHGO International's summit at UN's European Headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland. The scholarships valued $10,000 (US) are to be used only for the advancement of career and educational aspirations of the awardees.

The Watson Institute for International Studies at Brown University seeks several scholars/practitioners for one-year visiting fellowships to be affiliated with existing research projects at the Institute, beginning July 1, 2006.
The mission of the Watson Institute is to analyze contemporary global problems, working at the intersection of academia and policymaking. We seek individuals with a commitment to multi-disciplinary collaboration. Preference will be given to scholars/practitioners who can make contributions to and/or across themes such as: the financing of terrorism, the role of media in international studies, cultural awareness training in the military, institutions and development, or global climate change. The successful candidate will be expected to teach one undergraduate course
in his or her area of specialty. There is possibility of a renewal of this
