The student must be enrolled in the Applied Economics graduate program and will be expected to maintain a relationship with appropriate personnel at CHS. The award is renewable while the student is pursuing a degree.
The selection of the CHS fellow is made by the Director of Graduate Studies in Applied Economics Graduate Program in cooperation with the Department Head of Applied Economics. This selection will be made according to the guidelines established by the CHS Fellow program as well as the admission and academic criteria of the Applied Economics Graduate Program. Organic and Sustainable Food Systems Graduate Research Fellowship In 2008, the Minnesota Legislature allocated funds for the study of organic, sustainable and local food systems. The allocation included a Minnesota Agricultural Experiment Station (MAES) and College of Food Agricultural and Natural Resource Science (CFANS) graduate student fellowship. This student will work on an emerging program on the economics of organic agriculture and sustainable food systems. Depending on the
background and interests of the student, s/he will likely work on one of the following three topics:
1. The economics of conversion from conventional to organic production. Work on this topic will focus on the development of data and models to analyze the decision to convert to organic production and the impact of public sector policies on this decision.
2. Organic produce season extension. Work on this topic, in collaboration with scientists in other disciplines, will focus on the economics of extending the season for producing and marketing fresh fruits and vegetables in organic in a cold climate.
3. Cooperative arrangements for processing and marketing sustainably produced food products. Work on this topic will focus on the design and evaluation of cooperative business structures and supply chain arrangements that address the need for access to processing and the need to aggregate product to ensure a supply of a high volume product throughout the year.

The Fellow will report directly to ETIP's Director and may lead research efforts in one or more of the following subject areas: modeling economic, environmental and other impacts of policy options, examining regulatory scenarios related to various policy options, exploring the role of consumers in reducing the impact of transportation sector, and examining the role of biofuels. The Research Fellow will be expected to produce at least one publishable
article, present his findings before internal and external audiences, and play a substantive role in the dissemination process of any findings.

Fellows will work toward one or several of the above goals. ETI fellows participate in Congressional briefings, meetings with relevant stakeholders
in business, industry, academia, and elsewhere, and interviews with the media.

IIS seeks a fellow whose research will contribute to the following question: What are the global political, economic, and security implications of a partial shift from fossil fuels to other energy sources? (biofuels, nuclear, other renewables) The reigning assumption in policy circles is that reducing American dependence on fossil fuels would enhance America's freedom of action and be almost entirely a good thing from a geopolitical perspective. For example, it would reduce US dependence on authoritarian regimes, constrain funding for terrorist organizations, slow global climate change, and free up potentially dangerous transportation choke points around the world. Is this conventional wisdom robust? For example, an alternative view is plausible: 'complex energy interdependence' of the type we have now constrains geopolitical action in desirable ways, re-distributes wealth in patterns that are stabilizing to the global economy, and creates shared interests among otherwise highly competitive great powers. What is certain from previous historical experience is that global energy transitions - for
example from coal to oil - had profound and long-lasting implications not only for global energy markets, but also for military and corporate strategy, environmental and economic policy, and ultimately, international politics.
The objective of this post-doctoral fellowship is to promote analytically sophisticated research that both questions assumed premises, and also evaluates other political, economic, and military consequences of such a shift - both intended and unintended. IIS promotes interdisciplinary research in international, comparative, and policy studies on the Berkeley campus of the University of California (http://globetrotter .berkeley. edu/).
This post-doctoral opportunity is part of a broader project on the political economy of energy transitions, supported by the Energy Biosciences Institute (http://www.energybi osciencesinstitu te.org/index. php).

Drury University - Scholarships for International Students

Academic Honor Scholarships:
Students with a B average (3.0) or higher and with ONE of the following proficiency scores: IBT TOEFL 72 (TOEFL 530PB), IELTS 6.0, SAT 1650, or ACT 24 are encouraged to apply to Drury for automatic Academic Honor Scholarships starting with our upcoming Spring 2009 semester. Prices for Spring 2009 range from $1000 - $6000. There will be a scholarship increase for Fall 2009. These scholarships will range from $2000 - $8000. There is no special application necessary to be considered for these scholarships. Scholarships are guaranteed for Fall 2009 if all admission requirements have been met by Feb 1, 2009.
Trustee Scholarships:
These are by invitation only and are available for the Fall 2009 semester. Students must submit a high school transcript of B+ (3.5) or higher and the SAT cumulative score of 1920 or higher. We will offer 10 awards of full tuition scholarships, 10 awards of $12,000, and 10 awards of $10,000. These are made on the final decision of the Scholarship Committee. Students are expected to take a telephone interview during the special Trustee scholarship weekend.
All scholarships are renewable for Drury's 4-year undergraduate degrees (or 5 years for Architecture and Accounting degrees) with a 3.0 or B cumulative grade point average each year.
Announcement regarding International Baccalaureate Scholarship:
Deadline: July 15, 2009
This honor is awarded to students who have completed the requirements and have or will receive an international baccalaureate diploma. Students must submit proof of completion of the IB diploma requirements from their counselor or transcript, and a copy of their diploma once they receive it. This award is $7000 and is not stacked with a student's academic scholarship or a Trustee scholarship.
College Credit for the completion of the IB Diploma with a score of:
28: at least 30 credit hours
27: at least 25 credit hours
26: at least 20 credit hours
25: at least 15 credit hours
24: at least 10 credit hours
Credit will initially be awarded as elective credit, with specific course equivalents designated in consultation with department chairs and university registrar. All scholarships are renewable for Drury's 4-year undergraduate degrees (or 5 years for Architecture and Accounting degrees) with a 3.0 or B cumulative grade point average each year.
Announcement regarding International Baccalaureate Scholarship:
Deadline: July 15, 2009
This honor is awarded to students who have completed the requirements and have or will receive an international baccalaureate diploma. Students must submit proof of completion of the IB diploma requirements from their counselor or transcript, and a copy of their diploma once they receive it. This award is $7000 and is not stacked with a student's academic scholarship or a Trustee scholarship.
College Credit for the completion of the IB Diploma with a score of:
28: at least 30 credit hours
27: at least 25 credit hours
26: at least 20 credit hours
25: at least 15 credit hours
24: at least 10 credit hours
Credit will initially be awarded as elective credit, with specific course equivalents designated in consultation with department chairs and university registrar. In most cases, a mark of 4 (HL) or 5 (SL) on a subject area test will warrant credit for specific equivalencies. For those not completing the Diploma program, credit may still be awarded for satisfactory scores on individual subject tests.

for youth education projects in Western Balkans
Schüler Helfen Leben (SHL) is a charitable organization which wants to support youth projects in South-East-Europe to develop peace, reconciliation and democracy in the whole region step by step. Our current balance is: more than 15 million Euros donated and more than a hundred projects in Albania, Croatia, Bosnia–Herzegovina, Romania, Macedonia, Serbia and Kosovo.
Since 1998 SHL is regularly asking pupils throughout Germany to participate in the Social Day. The pupils will not go to school for one day, they will work and donate their earned salary to SHL. In order not to limit the participation of these young people to the one day-action the selection of promoted youth project partners will be partly put in their hands as well.
SHL is looking for non profit organizations, which want to use a part of the Social Day donations for a project implemented on their on. These projects should aim a direct support of children and young people. We are looking for projects, which follow an inter-ethnic approach and strengthen local organisations. Especially in rural areas we see a particular need for more intensive youth work.
Projects from following countries in South-East Europe can apply: Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro and Serbia.

Call for proposals
for youth education projects in Western Balkans
Schüler Helfen Leben (SHL) is a charitable organization which wants to support youth projects in South-East-Europe to develop peace, reconciliation and democracy in the whole region step by step. Our current balance is: more than 15 million Euros donated and more than a hundred projects in Albania, Croatia, Bosnia–Herzegovina, Romania, Macedonia, Serbia and Kosovo.
Since 1998 SHL is regularly asking pupils throughout Germany to participate in the Social Day. The pupils will not go to school for one day, they will work and donate their earned salary to SHL. In order not to limit the participation of these young people to the one day-action the selection of promoted youth project partners will be partly put in their hands as well.
SHL is looking for non profit organizations, which want to use a part of the Social Day donations for a project implemented on their on. These projects should aim a direct support of children and young people. We are looking for projects, which follow an inter-ethnic approach and strengthen local organisations. Especially in rural areas we see a particular need for more intensive youth work.
Projects from following countries in South-East Europe can apply: Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro and Serbia.

A Washington D.C based government contractor needs a consultant to assist USAID in creating a report about secondary and University education in the Balkans.
The report, to start in February or March 2009, will include three main sections: a synopsis of changes in the Balkan education system after 1989, a review of current external funding from the USA, and a review of current external funding from other governments, the European Union, and private organizations.
The focus on the report is both theoretical in terms of concepts and techniques for improving delivery and funding of education within the region and practical in terms of the historical and current results of this funding.
Relevant Skills Required:
Interviewing experience.
Fluency in English and at least one regional language.
Understanding of Excel.
Good writing skills (especially for reports).
At least two years experience within an educational, NGO, or governmental organisation. Commercial experience is acceptable if work was related to education or statistical collection.

IDEA: Intelligent, Distributed Environmental Assessment is a newly granted project that will run for four years to come. The project will greatly improve methodologies for measuring the quality of the local living environment and support policy action taken on the basis of an intelligent interpretation of results. The project will focus on improving spatial measurement accuracy by using cheaper sensors (e.g. for noise) suitably organised in a network, alternative measurement methodology (e.g. mobile particulate matter measurement) , combined environmental agent interpretation based on the structure of the underlying source mechanisms (e.g. traffic networks) and the physics of propagation, etc. New methodologies for distributed processing of
the collected data will lead to more efficient use of computer resources. Computational intelligence will be promoted to interpret the observations made by this high performance network and support decision making based on its measurement results.
To strengthen the IDEA team we are currently looking for 2 or 3 students that are interested in starting a PhD (granted by Ghent University, www.ugent.be) in this area. They will work as part of the team of approximately eight researchers involved in the realisation of IDEA and will be fully paid (PhD grant) for four years. After four years of intensive training by the team's experts, the PhD graduate will be ready for an academic carrier or take a high ranked job in environmental protection, sensor network related business, or similar.
The project will benefit from a team of researchers having different expertise and background. Applicants with a background in computer science, electronic engineering, environmental engineering, physics engineering, information sciences and mathematics will be welcomed. EUROPOLIS is a ”peer review” journal founded in 2001 within the academic community of the Political Science and Public Administration Faculty, Babeº-Bolyai University. The bi-annual publication promotes Political Science scholars, focusing on research and studies that fulfill academic criteria and standards. The publication represents a framework where researchers’ interests, approaches, and methodologies meet to create high standard academic debates.
Issue 5/2009 focuses on democratization, the editors encouraging contributions in the form of single-case studies or comparative approaches (including large N studies) that deal with the topic. Articles may tackle, but not restricted to, questions like: What are the main challenges of post-authoritarian regimes? Are transitions similar across countries or regions? Are there transition particularities? What elements influence the degree and speed of democratization?
In order to attract various contributions, the journal proposes two categories: academic papers and book reviews. Under the “work in progress” section, it also accepts parts of larger works that are not yet finalized. This provides the authors the chance to receive valuable feedback from the readers and it allows the latter to analyze a developing research. The requirements for work in progress are the similar with the ones for an article.

The FP6 supported research network of REVACERN is publishing a call for a grant in the following topics:
* Changing Religiosity values and moralities
* New religious phenomena and religious renewal
* Orthodoxy in Central and Eastern Europe
* Religion and media
* The correlations of religious and national-ethnic identity
* Social activities of religious communities and civil organisations
* Values and religions in education
* Legal status of religious communities
* Policy making
The topics mentioned are trying to describe the complex process developing after the Central and Eastern European region after the political juncture in 1989/1991. The description of the religion and value-related procedure has not only scientific goals, rather applied the knowledge and context gathered will be transformed into functional alternatives and activity guides for decision makers and influential
factors for public opinion within the region and the European Union. The religion is a society-builder factor and potential for conflict at the same time. The discourse of the religious dimensions of a nation, its political and juridical handling needs a constant follow-up of the processes, and from the part of experts of study of religion expects an active participation in public debates and policy makings.
The ideal applicant has a MA degree in study of religion or any social sciences, is a PhD student or has a recent PhD degree, has experience in scientific research, publication, conference participation. Near English, knows at least one Eastern European language, is affiliated in a university or research institute.
The application should contain an essay, which should contain the followings:
- the selected topic, a motivation of the selection at first former works on the selected topic
- short reference of the international bibliography of the selected topics
- detailed elaboration of the regional relevancy of the topic, with aspects of comparison
- description of grounded hypotheses
