Masters Degree on Political Science at University of Warsaw

*2. Description of studies *

Master's Degree Studies in Political Science are addressed primarily to foreigners with a Bachelor's degree awarded upon completion of a Bachelor's degree program (undergraduate studies) in Poland or elsewhere.

The program of studies consists of the following subjects: Polish and General Contemporary History, Political System of the Republic of Poland, Poland in International Relations, History of Political Institutions, European Political Systems, Political Institutions of the EU, European Law, Theories of Politics, Methods in Political Research, Political Thought, Political Philosophy and Problems of Ethics, Sociology and Psychology of Politics, Social Movements, Theory and Practice of the Welfare State in Europe, International Relations, International Security, Political Decision-Making, Political Communication.

Graduates will acquire in the intellectual qualifications necessary for analysing political problems from an international perspective. Thanks to skill building activities provided during course, they will be well trained in the art of communication, negotiation and persuasion. The graduates will be fully qualified to take up the posts of analysts and specialists in public administration, universities, think-tanks, media, national or international institutions and organizations, and companies operating across Europe and worldwide.

In order to receive a Master's degree, the graduates will be required to write a Master's thesis and pass the examination. The Program is fee-paying. The language is English.

*3. **Qualification procedure*

In order to apply for admission apart from fluent English candidates should meet *one *of the following conditions:

1. hold the Bachelor's degree in any area of studies in Poland or elsewhere,
2. hold the Master's degree in any area of studies, in Poland or elsewhere

Documents to be supplied by candidates

*General documents:*

1. High school diploma
2. One of the two documents certifying:
1. Bachelor's degree in any area of studies in Poland or elsewhere,
2. Master's degree in any area of studies, in Poland or elsewhere,

Foreign diplomas must be authenticated by the appropriate authorities, if there is no agreement on the mutual recognition of diplomas, translated into Polish by a sworn translator and certified (if there is no agreement on the mutual recognition of diplomas): high school diplomas by the Education Office in Warsaw and university diplomas by the proper Faculty at the University of Warsaw.

1. Application form filled in by the candidate
2. Copy of the passport/identity card page with the photograph, certified by the University of Warsaw
3. Four ID photographs of the candidate
4. Certificate confirming the knowledge of English, e.g. TOEFL, AC or IELTS. A candidate who does not have possibility to present any certificate of English language proficiency is required to submit an essay written in English (between 1,000 and 1,500 words) on the European Union issues. A candidate does not need to submit language test certificates, if he/she is a native speaker, his/her English is an official language in a country or he/she received education in English.
5. Written commitment to regular payment of tuition fees
6. Printout from the Internet Registration of Candidates - IRK (after the central on-line registration)
7. Application for the electronic student card (after the central on-line registration)
8. Receipt of the administration fee (after the central on-line registration)
9. Health certificate

Candidates should register on-line (https://irk.uw.edu.pl/?change_lang=en) and pay the non-refundable administrative fee according to the general rules.

Decision on admissionCandidates will be qualified on the basis on the documents submitted until all places have been filled. When the number of applications exceeds the limit of students, the additional procedure will start. Candidates will prepare essays in English concerning the issues of the European integration (formal requirements: 5-7 pages, Word Document, font 12, line spacing - 1,5). The essay will test the English knowledge as well as the general knowledge of subjects included in the program of studies. The decision about the admission of candidates outside the EU must made by the Rector of the University of Warsaw.*

*4. Tuition fees*

Tuition fees cover the cost of participation in the program and have been set for the academic year 2010/2011 at 1,750 euros per semester for the first year students from the EU/EFTA countries and at 2,150 euros per semester for the first year students from outside the EU/EFTA area. In the second year of studies the tuition fee amounts to 1,600 euros and 2,125 euros per semester respectively.
