The Middle East Strategic Research Center (MESRC) at Zirve University is a new research center located in Gaziantep, Turkey. While enjoying its strategic location at the center of southeastern Turkey and its proximity to the Middle East, MESRC strives to facilitate the interdisciplinary study of the Middle East. The Center recognizes the interconnectedness of the region's politics, economics, peoples and
cultures to the wider global context.
Research at the MESRC covers the geographical area stretching from the Persian Gulf to the Mediterranean, from Suez to the Red Sea, plus the surrounding areas, including North and West Africa, Pakistan, India, Central Asia and Caucasus. In addition to its core research activities, the Center provides strategic insights and policy solutions to decisionmakers in government, international institutions, private sector, and civil society.
Activities
As a reflection of its interdisciplinary character, the range of interests and research themes is rich and varied. It encompasses multiple disciplines ranging from politics to economics, business, education, science and technology. The commitment on the part of MESRC to reach a wide variety of individuals and institutions is evident in the numerous activities sponsored and organized by the Center, including
- Granting degrees in Middle Eastern Studies,
- Sponsoring seminars and conferences for the purpose of educating government officials and businessmen about various aspects of the contemporary Middle East,
- Organizing and sponsoring lecture series, seminars, conferences, colloquia, and film series,
- Organizing cultural and social events open to general public,
- Promoting joint ventures and collaborative projects with other Centers, institutions of higher learning, private sector and industry,
Supporting the teaching and research agenda of Zirve University members, graduate students, and scholars through research and travel grants,
- Publishing a regular newsletter, brief policy analysis papers, working papers and white papers.
