PHD scholarship in comparative politics in the EUROSPHERE project

A PhD scholarship in comparative politics is available in the EUROSPHERE project at Unifob Global. The PhD scholar will have his/her workplace at Unifob Global / Department of Comparative Politics. The duration of engagement is four years, starting from 1 September 2007.

EUROSPHERE € ¦’´Diversity and the European Public Sphere: Towards a Citizens€ ¦’² Europe€ ¦’´ is an integrated project under the EU€ ¦’²s 6th Framework Programme. It is an international collaborative project between 17 European universities. The project is coordinated by the University of Bergen / Unifob Global and funded by the European Commission. The PhD-scholar will participate in EUROSPHERE€ ¦’²s international research activities by conducting the research work which is specified in the contract between the University of Bergen and the European Commission. The PhD-scholar€ ¦’²s research tasks include data collection about think tanks in Norway € ¦’¶ and analyses of their roles in the articulation of a European public sphere either in Norway or in a comparative perspective.

Applicants must have a master€ ¦’²s degree in comparative politics or corresponding education. Total scholarship period is 4 years. 25% of this period will be allocated to mandatory tasks at the department for university PhD-scholars. Time used in
earlier recruitment positions will be deducted from the applicants€ ¦’² total scholarship period.

The PhD-scholar will go through a 3-year€ ¦’²s approved training programme for a PhD-degree. A project description (5-8 pages) will be enclosed in the application, which should contain implementation plans for different parts of the research work. It should discuss and justify topics, research questions, and choice of theory and methods. The project description should be in compliance with EUROSPHERE€ ¦’²s scientific objectives and its overall implementation plans. The applicants must fulfil the qualification requirements for admission to the PhD-programme at the University of Bergen. It is required that the candidates have good and relevant analytical skills as well as theory and methods knowledge.
