INTRODUCTION TO QUALITATIVE RESEARCH METHODS (EXTRA COURSE DUE TO OVERWHELMING RESPONSE TO OUR JANUARY ONE-WEEK COURSE)

This one week course is aimed at health professionals, researchers and postgraduate students with little or no understanding of qualitative research methods. It aims to provide hands on practical experience of different qualitative methods including in-depth interviewing, focus
groups and ethnography. It is particularly suited for people who are starting work on a project with a qualitative dimension, doctoral students at the beginning of their projects or those who are thinking about using qualitative research methods. £995

INTRODUCTION TO MEDIA CONTENT ANALYSIS (NEW COURSE: FIRST TIME OFFERED)

This one day course, presented by Dr Shona Hilton, is aimed at researchers who have little or no experience of content analysis. Everyone is welcome, regardless of research background. The course aims to introduce researchers to the method of manifest and latent content analysis with step by step instruction on developing a coding frame, coding and analysing media stories. Although the course is primarily targeted at those with an interest in examining the media’s
influence on health using content analysis, the method can be used to analyse a variety of text. £225

INTRODUCTION TO QUALITATIVE INTERVIEWING (BOOK NOW)

This two-day course is aimed at researchers who have little or no experience of qualitative interviewing. Previous courses have attracted researchers from the health service, clinicians and social scientists. The only requirements are an interest in qualitative interviewing and the desire to conduct better interviews. The course aims to provide hands on practical experience of different qualitative interviewing skills. £395

INTRODUCTION TO FOCUS GROUPS (FILLING FAST)

This one day course is aimed at health professionals, researchers and postgraduate students who want to develop skills in organising and facilitating focus groups and in analysing focus group data. The course is suitable for those with little or no understanding of focus group method as well as those wishing to review and broaden existing skills. Practical exercises and small group work will be used throughout the course to develop competence in designing topic guides,
moderating focus groups and analysing data. £225

ANALYSING QUALITATIVE INTERVIEWS
26-27 April 2012 (FULLY BOOKED)
18-19 October 2012 (BOOK NOW)
This two day course is aimed at researchers who are planning to undertake or manage qualitative research using in-depth or semi structured interviews or those who have already collected qualitative interview data which they are unsure how to analyse. It aims to introduce the principles and practice of qualitative interview data analysis, with particular emphasis on thematic analysis techniques. It uses a combination of practical workshops, group discussions and formal lectures. The course will also introduce participants to narrative analysis and discourse analysis. £440
