European Academy 2010 : 18-22 October
Tirana, Albania

Based on the success of the first edition of EuropeanAcademyin 2009, The Albanian Institute for International Studies (AIIS) announces the organization of the third session of the European Academy 2010, to take place from October 18-22, 2010 in Tirana, Albania.

The European Academyis organized with the support of Friedrich-Ebert- Stiftung and the Embassy of Spain in Albania.

Content:

The curriculum, to be designed and taught by renowned experts, will focus on four main areas listed below. The general orientation of the sessions will be to teach and discuss the relevance of each area for Albania's key requirements and challenges in the EU integration process, the rule of law in particular:

- History of European Union - the legal basis (the treaties)
- European Union Institutions - focus on law-making
- European Union Policies - focus on EU Foreign Policy and its legal basis, and Freedom Security and Justice
- Albania-EU relations - focus on the acquis and approximation, and Albania's challenges in strengthening the rule of law.

Target group:

The call is open to Albanian citizens from public administration, the media, civil society and academia whose work and/or studies relate to EU Law, law-making, law approximation and similar aspects, preferably lawyers and law students.

Application requirements:

- University diploma (preferably in the social sciences)
- Letter of motivation
- Knowledge of (a) foreign language (s) is advantageous

CfA: Educational Summer Camp, Blagoevgrad, Bulgaria

The American University in Bulgaria is organizing an Educational Summer Camp from July 4 to July 24, 2010 in the town of Blagoevgrad, Bulgaria.

The Camp is open to high school students 14 - 18 years of age who have an intermediate or higher level of knowledge of the English language. The program includes 5 educational courses: Writing Skills, Business, Computer Skills, Individual Development and Community Skills, and Journalism. Each course is one week long and will be taught in English. Each student will select in advance and take 3 out of these 5 courses. Afternoon classes, sports, excursions, movie nights, disco nights, and other activities are also included in the Camp program to make it both intensive and entertaining. Students will work with a team of American teachers and local educational specialists. Those students who successfully complete the program and strictly follow the camp rules will receive a Certificate of attendance from the American University in Bulgaria.

The Camp Fee is 510 EURO, and covers:
· A variety of academic morning and afternoon classes
· Sports and recreation activities in the afternoon and evening

CfA: The 2010 Digilent Design Contest, Technical University of Cluj

We proudly announce the 6th annual Digilent Design Contest, organized within the
Technical University of Cluj-Napoca, sponsored by Digilent, Imprezzio and Xilinx!

The goal of this international student contest is to encourage students to develop their hardware and software skills. We invite teams of students (one or two members), from all over the world, to put their ideas in practice. Teams have 3 months to design and implement a project of their choice and present the final version in May 2010 in Cluj-Napoca, Romania.

EU, USA: Transatlantic Methods for Handling Global Challenges

PILOT PROJECTS OUTPUTS

Each project has to comprise the following parts:
. Comparative analysis of current US and EU policy towards the problem at hand;
. Conference involving the research and the policy communities on both sides of the Atlantic; the conference findings should be made available on the internet;
. Publication of the projects' findings and recommendations in ways that are easily accessible for policy makers (both a web version and a printed version will be required).

An important part of the initiative will be a final wrap-up conference organised under the auspices of the European Commission in winter 2011 for all projects. All project leaders are expected to attend this final conference. The participation of all US and EU partners at this conference is essential because it will be the only opportunity for applicants and funding entities to meet and share ideas. It is also
intended as a forum for discussion to help the EU and US administrations make important decisions on how best to coordinate. There should be for each project at least one participant from each participating organisation. Beneficiaries will present the results/findings/ recommendations from their project in specific workshops, with a view to pulling together results, recommendations and conclusions to be compiled in a publication and presented to the EU-US Summit of 2012.

TARGET AUDIENCE FOR PROJECTS EU, US:
Conferences and publications are aimed at representatives of the academic community, the media, civil society and non-governmental organisations, the business community, legislators and policy executives at the relevant government level in both the EU and the US.

ELIGIBLE TYPE OF ACTIVITIES
. Seminars, conferences and workshops;
. Publications;
. Briefing sessions, speaking tours and study visits targeting decision-makers and opinionformers, such as federal or national/state legislators and staff; civil servants; business people, civil society organisations, NGO representatives and journalists.

PROFILE OF APPLICANTS
Subject to their meeting the eligibility criteria set out in Section 8, proposals are invited from the following kinds of organisations:
. Think tanks and other policy-oriented non-governmental organisations
. Other kinds of NGOs and civil society organisations
. Universities, research centres
. Not-for-profit business associations, Chambers of commerce
. Trade unions and labour organisations

About The Conference

EWS 2009 will be executed on the principle of deliberative polling which is based on the idea of enabling every participant to involve directly to the discussion of topics in the student workshops and to merge the discussions of the students in the workshops with the speeches of the expert speakers.

With regard to this principle there will be two student workshops in which the participant students in the conference will discuss, analyze and produce arguments and questions from the discussions on the topics of the workshops. The debates, arguments and questions drawn from the workshops will be presented to the expert speakers and they will give their speeches on the basis of the discussions in student workshops.


Two topics to be discussed in student workshops will be the following;

1) Europe's Others

2) Others' Europe


The discussions in these two above mentioned student workshops will be directly influenced by the speeches of the expert speakers who will deliver their speeches in the same two main topics during the panels.

Summary of the project: The project aim to open a dialogue process between youngsters from SEE countries and EU countries and understand common values, experiences which have to be shared between them and find lessons to be learned from historical background of their countries.

extends the deadline for submission of applications for the interdisciplinary postgraduate studies in:

GENDER STUDIES

The Masters Program in Gender Studies is a two year interdisciplinary postgraduate program, with the aim to educate students on methods, theories and concepts, necessary for the study of gender, general and specific contexts, as well as to teach students how to conduct the research within this interdisciplinary area. The MA Program aims to contribute to the establishment of network of experts who are prepared to work in domestic, regional, international, academic, governmental and non-governmental institutions, with the common motive to promote gender research, gender interdisciplinary knowledge and gender equality within their communities. The structure of the Program emphasizes regional approach in the study of gender.

Teaching staff and study subjects:
Study subjects are: Gender Theories; Gender and Human Rights; Gender and Politics; Gender and Balkans; Gender and Development and particular seminars which will address gender aspects within other scientific fields. In addition, course Research methodology in the field of gender studies is the part of teaching curriculum. Besides the teaching staff from the University of Sarajevo, professors from numerous
universities of South-East Europe, European Union and wider will participate in the program.

Application procedure:
Applications for this MA program are accepted from persons who hold a university degree, are fluent in one of the official languages of Bosnia and Herzegovina (Bosnian, Serbian or Croatian) and in English language, are strongly motivated and have good computer skills. Relevant work experience in this field may be an
advantage. There are no restrictions in relation to the citizenship of the applicants, if abovementioned conditions have been fulfilled. The Didactic Council of this MA Program will select the successful candidates on the basis of submitted applications and interviews. Applicants are required to submit the following documents:
- Certified copy of the university diploma
- Original or certified copy of the university transcript
- Curriculum Vitae
- A letter of motivation (in the form of essay, length 3 pages, in English)
- Document that confirms active knowledge of English language (TOEFL, IELTS or certificate from the SOROS School for Foreign Languages are preferred)
- 2 letters of recommendation (at least one academic)

Expected date of start of the Program:beginning of October 2008. Lectures will mainly take place during weekends in the Center for Interdisciplinary Postgraduate Studies of the University of Sarajevo (CIPS).

Tuition fees:Students financially participate in realization of the Program with 5,000 KM (2,500 euros). MA thesis defense costs are included in this price. This amount can be paid in five installments. In addition, program implementation is co-financed by donors mentioned below. CIPS can provide you with the contact details of the banks in Bosnia and Herzegovina which provide for student loans.

Scholarships: The MA Program provides for two kinds of scholarships:
- 5 (five) scholarships that cover tuition fees. The decisive criteria to be taken into consideration when deciding on the allocation of the scholarships shall be, but not limited to, the following: academic excellence, regional representation (for example candidates from Serbia, Croatia, Montenegro, Macedonia etc), social eligibility (socially disadvantaged groups), motivation for the program.
- stipends for travel and accommodation (in Sarajevo during the days of lectures) for the students who live outside of Sarajevo

CfA: Azerbaijan Diplomatic Academy Joint Research Fellowship

Joint Research Project

Azerbaijan 2025: Strategic Outlook of the Country

The Azerbaijan Diplomatic Academy (ADA) is launching a joint research fellowship program for the years of 2008-2010.

This project aims to create a model for Azerbaijan¹s sustainable development while researching its competitive advantage. It takes the year 2025 as a benchmark when country¹s major oil resources are expected to deplete. We plan to develop various scenarios attempting to examine the strategy which will shape Azerbaijan of that time. Scenarios considered as outcome of the project may be utilized for academic discussion and/or policy application.

Framework of the project includes, but is not limited to, five major fields of study that are considered vital for strategy formulation and building competitive advantage. ADA recognizes that there are other important issues and challenges deserving attention. However, due to the resource and time limitations, they are not included in this phase of the project. ADA will focus on five fields of study outlined in this call, but reserves the right to add to or amend existing list.

A potential candidate must have a PhD or equivalent in experience. Affiliation with a research/educationa l institution is NOT required.

Depending on their expressed commitment, ADA will grant competitive fellowships to selected candidates. Fellows are free to attract additional funding but with a prior consent of ADA.

CfA: IAPSS Annual Academic Conference 2008

you're all invited to the IAPSS Annual Academic Conference 2008, "THE GIANT'S RISE: the Chinese Way to Development and its Contradictions".

The event will take place in Rome, between the 22nd and the 26th of October 2008, and it will be hosted by two executing associations: Asp Roma Luiss and Iapss Roma Tre.

The theme
The rise of China as a super-power has been one of the most controversial and debated topic among academics during the last dozen of years. With the Olympic Games of Beijing 2008 at the gates, Chinese affairs are gaining even more topicality.
The academic conference, which will take place two months after the conclusion of the Olympic Games, is aiming to analyse the weak and strong points of the Chinese model to development, encompassing traditional literature, as well as the most recent news.

The program
The academic program will last three days and will combine conferences and thematic workshops. In the mornings of the first two days professors and experts will give a speech according to the panel they will be called to join. Themes of the panels encompass international economy, foreign relations and internal policies. Workshops are meant to be more interactive and will focus on human rights and inter-cultural dialogue. In the last day of the programs students who submit papers will have a the opportunity to present them.

Being Rome a city of high tourist attraction and of lively night-life, participants will be also offered an intense schedule of social and cultural activities besides the academic program.

Master of Arts Program in European Studies (MAPES) is a one year, multidisciplinary, non-thesis MA program in European Studies. The language of instruction is English. The profile of MAPES students is highly international, and includes students from various EU countries as well as Australia, Canada and the United States. MAPES is an
interdisciplinary program that combines the strengths of faculty in political science, international relations, economics, modern Turkish studies, history and sociology. Our graduates receive a first-rate training in the area of political and economic, as well as historical and cultural dimensions of European integration and European Union-Turkey Relations.

MAPES is designed to provide its graduates with academic and analytical skills they need to develop European-related careers in institutions of European Union, other international European organizations, business, government, NGO sector, and academia.

International Master in Social Policy Analysis by Luxembourg, Leuven and Associate Institutes (IMPALLA)

The IMPALLA programme is organized jointly by the CEPS/INSTEAD

(Luxembourg) and the catholic University in Leuven (Belgium). Its broader academic network includes University of Nancy 2 (France), University of Tilburg (The Netherlands) and University of Luxembourg.

The programme leads to an advanced Master Degree issued by the K.U. Leuven where the IMPALLA students are registered as regular students.

The academic programme has three major objectives:

- to offer a solid theoretical foundation in comparative socio-economic policies, at the European level and beyond
