PhD Position in Architecture at University of Lugano, Switzerland

The Accademia di architettura dell’Università della Svizzera italiana, Mendrisio, invites applications for a funded PhD position from October 15th 2009, for a minimum period of 36 months. The position requires full time attendance. Remuneration is based on the Swiss National Fund parameters.

The PhD student will take part in the CUS research project (Swiss Cooperation Project in Architecture) Critical encyclopaedia of re-use and restoration of Twentieth-Century architecture, coordinated by professors Bruno Reichlin (USI), Franz Graf (EPFL) and Vittorio Magnago Lampugnani (ETHZ). He/She will work under the supervision of the responsible faculty members (B. Reichlin, R. Grignolo). The area of his/her research will be the theory and history of re-use and restoration of Twentieth-Century heritage and work will comprise the documentation of case studies. She/He will also write some of the encyclopaedia’ s entries.

Requirements

Master degree in architecture
Good knowledge of Twentieth-Century architecture and restoration
Good knowledge of Swiss national languages, German especially, and English.
Postgraduate qualifications will receive positive evaluation.
