CfA: NISIS Autumn School 2011 "Classical and Modern," Amsterdam, DL 25-28 October 2011

From Tuesday 25 October until Friday 28 October, NISIS organises it second Autumn School in Amsterdam. The programme consists of public lectures aimed a general public, and specific workshops aimed at both advanced MA students and PhD candidates who are invited to apply for
participation. Deadline for application: 19 September.

The overall theme of the NISIS Autumn School 2011 is 'Classical and Modern'. For a long time, there has been a dichotomy within Islamic Studies between studying the classical and the modern era. Our aim is to bridge this divide so that both approaches will enhance and gain from each other. Three subthemes have been identified: 1. Theology and History of Ideas. 2. Mysticism. 3. Law.
