Research assistant/PhD, "Databases for New Applications" at University of Hagen, Germany

In the group "Databases for New Applications" at University of Hagen, Germany, a position for a research assistant is available. As is common in Germany, besides supporting the teaching duties of the group, the candidate is expected to also work on and complete a Ph.D. after a few years. The group is well-known in the research community for work on spatial and moving objects databases as well as the development of extensible database architecture and a corresponding
prototype system, Secondo. The candidate should contribute to this research field and to system development.

Working time: about 40 hrs per week
Monthly salary: about 3100.- Euro at the start
Contract initially for two years, may be extended

Desired qualifications:

* An excellent master degree in computer science
* Good knowledge of database systems including implementation techniques
* Very good knowledge of the German language (necessary for teaching), preferably a native speaker
* Good knowledge of English (for research and publishing)
* Good capabilities in programming and system development
