Dear Colleagues:
This summer’s session on transatlantic relations of the Salzburg Seminar will convene just days after the conclusion of the US-EU summit in nearby Vienna. There are again spaces available for qualified participants, so I hope that you or your colleagues might be interested in attending to join in this timely discourse on the state of transatlantic affairs.
The session will meet from June 29 to July 4, 2006, at Schloss Leopoldskron, an 18th century castle on the outskirts of Salzburg, to discuss what transpired at the summit and more broadly to examine the health of the transatlantic relationship. The Seminar will gather approximately 50 Fellows from 30 countries to explore the state of trade relations, diplomatic ties, political divisions, and security relationships. Special emphasis will be placed on the prospects for improving US-EU ties, and on how broader global concernssuch as the US war on terrorism and the growing global presence of China and Indiaare influencing the evolving transatlantic agenda.
Session participants will deal in-depth with special areas of interest in small working groups. But the session is broadly designed to foster discussion across narrow lines of specialization, by examining the complex interrelationship between politics, economics, and social issues in how Europeans and Americans will interact in the future.
More about the Seminar in general can be found at http://www.salzburgseminar.org/. A roster of current faculty members for Session 432 appears below. We anticipate adding others in the weeks ahead.
A simple applications process can be initiated through the website. The Seminar seeks a diverse group of Fellows, and attempts to make it possible for all qualified persons to attend its sessions. So please do not allow concerns about prospective session fees to discourage you from applyingfinancial aid is open to those with demonstrated need.
I am happy to answer any questions about the Seminar, and hope that I might welcome you to Schloss Leopoldskron in June. I hope that if you are not interested in attending, you will pass this notice along to someone else who might be.
Sincerely,
Dr. Russell L. Riley
Session Director, Session 432
