2 PhDs/PostDocs Cognitive NeuroImaging-MPI Biological Cyberne

1. PhD/PostDoc - Computational Cognitive Neuroimaging - Category Learning

Applications are invited for a PhD or PostDoc position in the Cognitive Neuroimaging
Group ( http://www.kyb. mpg.de/noppeneyg roup/index. html) at the Max Planck Institute for Biological Cybernetics. Projects will combine fMRI and computational modelling to investigate the neural basis of category learning. The position is supervised by Dr Uta Noppeney, in collaboration with Prof Peter Dayan (Gatsby Computational Neuroscience Unit, UCL) and Prof Bernhard Schoelkopf (machine learning department, Empirical Inference, MPI).

The Max Planck Institute for Biological Cybernetics provides an excellent multi-
disciplinary and interactive research environment combining expertise in neurophysiology, psychophysics, machine learning and development of MRI methodology.
Applicants should combine interest in neuroscience with a strong mathematical and
analytical background and have a master/diploma or equivalent degree in Neuroscience, Physics, Computer Science or related areas. The Ph.D./PostDoc position is funded by a MPI stipend or equivalent salary according to German Public service regulations. Applications including a CV, a statement of research interests, and the names and full contact details of two referees should be sent to: uta.noppeney@ tuebingen. mpg.de. The closing date for applications is 2 October 2008.

2. PhD/PostDoc - Cognitive Neuroimaging - Multisensory Integration

Applications are invited for a PhD or PostDoc position in the `Cognitive Neuroimaging Group' ( http://www.kyb. mpg.de/noppeneyg roup/index. html)headed by Dr Uta Noppeney to characterize the neural mechanisms underlying multi-sensory integration using fMRI and/or EEG/MEG. Effective connectivity analyses will be used to investigate how information from the senses is integrated through distinct interactions amongst brain regions.

Applicants should have a master/diploma or equivalent degree in Neuroscience,
Psychology, Bioinformatics or related areas. Prior experience in functional imaging,
MatLab, data analysis and modelling would be an advantage. The Ph.D./PostDoc position is funded by a MPI stipend or equivalent salary according to German Public service regulations.
