The Department of Computer Science at UVM announces Graduate Research Assistantships (GRAs) for PhD studies starting January 2009. There are three GRA positions from the department and two positions from individual faculty grants. Prospective Computer Science PhD students are also eligible to apply for Graduate Research Assistantships in Complex Systems (see www.uvm.edu/ complexsystems for application information) .

The Computer Science Ph.D. program at UVM has been growing steadily, and currently has about 20 Ph.D. students. The faculty in Computer Science are involved in the forefront of research in complex systems including artificial intelligence, data mining, distributed systems, and evolutionary computation. The research areas of individual faculty members can be found in the Further Information page linked below.

The research areas of the Ph.D. students are open for the departmental GRAs, and designated as follows for the others:
-- Privacy protection in location-based services, under the supervision of Prof. Wang (http://www.cs. uvm.edu/~ xywang/)
-- Wireless sensor network languages and security and wireless sensor network environmental monitoring applications, under the supervision of Prof. Skalka (http://www.cs. uvm.edu/~ skalka/)
-- Complex systems, under the supervision of any Computer Science faculty

QUALIFICATIONS:
Successful applicants must possess a bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field, and show satisfactory test scores on the Graduate Record Examination (GRE). International applicants must submit a TOEFL test score as well..
