PhD: Simulation of Electron Transport at Carbon/Metal Interfaces

A PhD or Masters candidate with strong interest in electronic structure theory and computational material science is sought. Background or familiarity with scientific computing is an advantage.

This project will focus on the calculation of electron transport properties at carbon/metal semiconductor interfaces. Physical and electrical properties of carbon nanotube/metal interfaces and related systems will be extracted from the simulations. The work will focus on generating structural models of the interfaces on the atomic scale and to use these atomistic models within an explicitly quantum mechancial treatment of electron transport.

Positions are available immediately through funding provided by Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) and the successful applicant will work with a team of researchers
developing quantum mechanical descriptions for future electron devices. Additional opportunities exist through the Irish Research Council for Science, Engineering and
Technology's PhD scholarship programme: http:\\www.ircset.ie
