Poverty, Social Welfare and Social Policy RC19
Anyone interested in presenting a paper at a session organized by this Research Committee should contact a session organizer before November 30, 2009.
Members of RC 19 meet annually to discuss issues in and perspectives on poverty, social welfare and social policy, with an emphasis on comparative welfare state studies. These discussions are typically interdisciplinary, drawing on a range of disciplines including sociology, social policy and political science. They have an increasingly global scope, addressing developments in countries of both North and South.
RC 19 discussions are usually conducted in a format in which the papers are pre-circulated, taken as read, and introduced by an appointed discussant. This format, known within the group as ‘Korpi’s Rules’, enables the limited time available in the conference sessions to be given to comment and discussion. Some RC 19 sessions at the 2010 World Congress will be based on this format, as noted in the descriptions below. Korpi’s Rules are described more fully at the end of the list of Proposed Sessions.
Under ISA regulations any individual may participate on up two sessions. Once your presentation is approved by the session chair, you must then submit an abstract of your paper on-line (instructions will be made available in due course). Abstracts are only accepted by the system from those who are already registered for the Congress. The deadline for submission of approved abstracts is May 4, 2010.
