Undoubtedly, the global financial and economic crisis of 2008-2009 represents the most important episode in the economic history of the world after World War II. What initially began as a pure financial turmoil, later on, it turned out to be a worldwide disaster, forcing prominent financial institutions to collapse, causing countries to become virtually bankrupt and prompting governments to engage in massive interventionism of unprecedented scale and form.
