Course description and application form

1. Why Peace and Intercultural dialogue?

MTP Oradea is a non-governmental organization active in the
field of Human Rights Education since 1997. Our main target group is young
people and the educational approach we use is based on non-formal
education. Our mission is to promote peace and tolerance, understanding
between cultures and the development of civil society.
So far we’ve been trying to promote peace by developing
community projects and fighting against discrimination, racism, violence and
other phenomena, which disturb the process of peace in the world.
We understood that fighting against something is not always
promoting something we want, like peace; therefore we choose to promote
values that bring and ensure peace. We consider that one way of
promoting peace is to improve our intercultural dialogue.
In the context of globalization, internationalism and the
current political climate in Europe, intercultural dialogue is a vital mean
of maintaining peace and world unity. The idea of “intercultural
dialogue” takes as its starting point the recognition of difference and
diverse in the world in which we live. These differences of opinion,
viewpoint, and values exist not only within each individual culture but
also between cultures. 'Dialogue’ seeks to approach these multiple
viewpoints, aiming to understand and learn from those who see the world
different than we do. An effective ‘intercultural dialogue’, therefore,
is an open interaction, which encourages the respectful sharing of
ideas and an exploration of the different values and thoughts, which the
world is perceived and understood.

This interaction emphasizes opportunities for broadened and
deepened self-knowledge and worldview. As a process, intercultural dialogue
encourages an identification of the boundaries that define individuals,
and then asks them to relate across those boundaries and even to call
them into question.

We believe that improving the intercultural dialogue and,
therefore, promoting peace, we prevent conflicts and we find different ways
to handle them.

The training course proposes you a multicultural environment to
discuss about intercultural dialogue, about how we perceive
misunderstandings and what can we do when we want to avoid conflicts.
