The group of Chemistry and Physics of Interfaces at the Department of Microsystems Engineering (IMTEK), Freiburg University, Germany is offering an immediate opening for a PhD position in the field of Nanotechnology and Nanomanipulation
The work is part of a general project concerning the search for new transport mechanisms to move and arrange nano-objects on surfaces. The approach for nanomanipulation proposed in our group is based on a pioneering idea of utilizing certain types of thin polymer films, namely, polymer brushes, the topography and surface energy of which can be manipulated at the nanometer scale.
We are looking for candidates with a strong background in physical or chemical engineering. Successful applicants should be able to integrate into an interdisciplinary working environment and perform research in the topic of scanning probe microscopy of polymer surfaces. He or she will acquire skills to make thin polymer films and study their properties.
We offer a PhD position according to German wage class BATIIa/2. Our group provides all the infrastructure needed for the physical and physico-chemical analysis of polymers and thin films. Part of the investigations will be conducted in close collaboration with scientists of different fields within Germany and abroad.
