The Professional Preparation for Development Cooperation (PPDC) course has been designed as the first of its kind in Romania . Created for Government, UN, INGO and NGO staff, PPDC is intended for participants who have had at least 2 – 3 years experience working in development cooperation, government policy and planning, or national civil society projects.

This includes:

Development Actor Mapping and Assessment Tools and Methodologies
Models of Cooperation: Government – Civil Society, NGO, INGO, UN
Cooperation for Field Work and Cooperation for Policy Development
Identifying Priorities for Romanian International Development Cooperation
Field Work & Implementation: Designing Effective Interventions
Responding to Complex Emergencies: Development & Relief Continuum
Lessons from the Field: Implementing Development Cooperation in Practice
Organizational Assessment for Participant Organizations
Interlinking Development: Gender, Human Rights, Peacebuilding, Human Security

PPDC will help your staff to:

Gain a much stronger understanding of the field of international development cooperation, key policies, and lessons learned from the field
Learn tools and methods for assessing development interventions, peace and conflict impact assessments, and Do No Harm methodology
Assess organizational capacity and opportunities for engagement
Contribute to the development of an enhanced network for international development cooperation in Romania and civil society – government cooperation



Who should apply:

The program is limited to a maximum of 25 participants.

As an advanced certificate training, PPDC has been designed for:

Government / Ministry: staff dealing with EU relations, international development cooperation, human rights, gender, peacekeeping and peacebuilding, human security, and regional cooperation
NGOs & Civil Society: Medium to Senior/Executive Staff and Program Managers dealing with Field Work, Project Implementation, Development Cooperation, Policy Planning and Design in the fields of development, human rights, gender, civil society cooperation, governance and democracy, peacebuilding and conflict resolution.

As the working language for the course will be English, candidates are required a working level of English language knowledge.

While the program has been designed for participants from Romania , participants from other countries may apply as well. Participants should have at least 2 – 3 years experience. A select number of participants entering the field may be accepted following applications and phone interviews

Participants who successfully complete the course will receive a Level I Certification in International Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Aid and will be invited to register for the national data-base of development workers now being established.

Organizations / Ministries sending 2 staff will receive a 15% discount for each participant. Organizations / Ministries sending 3 or more staff will receive a 15% discount for the first two participants and a 20% discount for each additional participant.

THE TRAINERS

Kai Frithjof Brand-Jacobsen is founder and Director of the Peace Action, Training and Research Institute of Romania (PATRIR) and Co-Director of TRANSCEND, and is on the Executive Board of the TRANSCEND Peace University (TPU). With ten years experience as a leading global consultant and expert advisor and practitioner on peacebuilding and development, conflict transformation, war-to-peace transitions, and post-war reconciliation and recovery, he has worked in Afghanistan, India, Pakistan, Nepal, Russia, Moldova, South Eastern Europe, Colombia, Mexico, Cambodia, southern Thailand, Burma, Somalia, Aceh, North America, and the Middle East at the invitation of governments, inter-governmental organisations, UN agencies, and local organisations and communities. Since 1996 he has provided more than 250 training programmes in peacebuilding, development, and constructive conflict transformation to more than 5000 participants in 36 countries. Read more.

Andra Tanaseis the Director for the International Peace and Development Training Center and a PATRIR -affiliated trainer. She currently is engaged in other activities such as work on a peacebuilding and developing civil society mission in Moldova-Transdnistria, the Development Education Forum steering group of CONCORD, IDC working group at PATRIR and Peace Education activities within Romania and abroad. Having graduated from the UN-affiliated University for Peace in Costa Rica with a Degree in International Peace Studies specializing in Economic Development Her research focus areas include Development, Human/Minority Rights and Peace Education, interests which she pursued through research papers such as: Work, Religious and Ethical Values: The Unique Case of the Roma Population, Economics of Happiness: Attempting to Answer the Debate Between Civil/Political Rights and Economic/ Social Rights, Breaking Shadows: A study of identity in post-conflict Bosnia (work in progress) and The Romanian "Razboi": An Analysis of the Various Types of Capital Available in Romania. PATRIR – The Peace Action, Training and Research Institute of Romania PATRIR is one of Europe ’s leading training and expert centers for conflict transformation and peacebuilding and with strong programs on gender and development. As host to the International Peace and Development Training Centre developed in cooperate with TRANSCEND, PATRIR has provided training in peacebuilding and related fields to more than 3000 participants from over 60 countries, both at the Centre and in requested programs internationally. TRANSCEND - A Peace and Development Network for Conflict Transformation by Peaceful Means TRANSCEND is a network of more than 400 of the world’s leading practitioners and scholars in peacebuilding and development from over 80 countries world-wide. Committed to the promotion of peace by peaceful means, TRANSCEND has 20 active programmes, and conducts its work through action, education/training, dissemination and research.
