Ph.D Fellowship at Centre for the Study of Equality and Multiculturalism

Ph.D Fellowship at Centre for the Study of Equality and Multiculturalism
KØBENHAVNS UNIVERSITET , København

Centre for the Study of Equality and Multiculturalism hereby invites applications for a PhD fellowship on discrimination against minorities. We encourage applications from scholars with a background in the humanities as well as the social sciences.

The successful applicant should take up the position by August 1, 2007, for a period of up to three years. S/he will become part of an interdisciplinary team at the centre. Centre for the Study of Equality and Multiculturalism, launched in January 2007, initiates and coordinates research activities on multicultural issues, in particular issues such as equality and equal treatment of people with different cultural and religious backgrounds. The Centre studies normative issues (e.g., which forms of equality are worth striving for) as well as empirical issues (e.g., how inequalities are created and maintained, and the obstacles to overcoming them).

The PhD project should focus on discrimination against minorities. It should include both an empirical and a normative component. For instance, it may identify and analyse a particular kind of discrimination, analyse the relation between discrimination and social exclusion and discuss the implications of ideals such as freedom and equality in relation to discrimination and the legal regulation thereof.

Applicants must possess a Master´s Degree or the equivalent or expect to possess one by May 1, 2007. All applicants must have submitted a thesis and enclose an assessment of it along with the application.

Appointment as a PhD fellow is subject to the rules of the Faculty of Humanities. Appointment is conditional upon enrolment as a PhD student at the Faculty.

Appointment as a PhD fellow is subject to the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC).

In accordance with this agreement, PhD fellows are obliged - without extra payment - to accept work corresponding to 840 hours over a three-year period.
