Kindly note that Department of Community Health Sciences (CHS) of Aga Khan University (AKU), Karachi, Pakistan is pleased to announce that a short course on Statistics, Data Management & Analysis and Computer Skills (SDMACS) has been scheduled from June 2 - 27, 2008. This course is part of CHS' Continuing Education Programme. Course information is given below for your reference along with attached registration form.
The Course
This is the 18th offering of SDMACS course scheduled from June 2 - 27, 2008. The duration of this course is about four week.
Goal of the Course
The course is designed to provide basic knowledge of computer skills, sound understanding of fundamental statistical concepts - using hands-on approach, and essential data management techniques.
Course Contents:
* Descriptive: Organizing, summarizing and displaying data.
* Inferential: Estimation and Hypothesis Testing, Sample Size calculation for estimating and testing a population mean.
* Introduction to MS Windows and MS Office including Word, Excel, Power Point & Outlook
* Introduction to SPSS including Data Management
* Introduction to Epi-Data including Data Management
Educational Strategies:
The course is comprised of interactive class room sessions, coupled with individual tutorial exercises, under the supervision of facilitators. Moreover take home exercises are given for practice on statistical methods to evaluate participants learning. The participants are required to attend all sessions and submit assignments of statistics and one written exams. Who should attend:
Junior and mid-management level personal of public and private organizations and individuals.
Medium of Instruction:
As English is the exclusive language of instruction, participants must be comfortable to read, write and speak in English language.
Tuition Fee:
The tuition fee of the course is Pak Rs. 19,300/= (US$ 320/=) which covers classroom instructions, course material, and simple refreshment during working hours. The mode of payment will be communicated to the selected candidates prior to the commencement of the course.
Travel, boarding and lodging during the course period, and self-care arrangements will be the responsibility of the participant( s) or their parent organization( s).
