CfA: Balkan Heritage Field School Projects in 2010

I am pleased to announce that Balkan Heritage (BH) Field School has just opened the application session for six projects in 2010 in Archaeology, Art History, Restoration and Conservation of artefacts and monuments, Fine Arts and
Christian Theology:

Balkan
Heritage (BH) Field School (est. 2003) functions as a legal part of Balkan Heritage Foundation – a Bulgarian public, non-profit, non-governmental organization. It implements various educative projects in the areas of Archaeology, Cultural Anthropology, Folklore, Art History, Restoration and Conservation of artefacts and monuments, Fine Arts and Theology Europe with participation of students, scholars and volunteers from all over the World.

Balkan Heritage
Mission is to support study, protection, restoration and promotion of sites, artefacts and practices belonging or related to the cultural heritage of South-Eastern Europe.

Projects’ location: Bulgaria, Macedonia

Projects in 2010:

“FRESCO-HUNTING" PHOTO EXPEDITION TO MEDIEVAL CHURCHES OF WEST BULGARIA

An expedition for fresco-documenting to some abandoned medieval churches and chapels in West Bulgaria. Dates: 8-22 May, 2010.


A BYZANTINE COLD CASE FILE - EARLY CHRISTIAN MONASTERY -STRONGHOLD EXCAVATIONS IN VARNA (ANCIENT ODESSOS)

Excavation of an early Christian monastery-stronghol d next to Varna on Black sea, Bulgaria. Two field school sessions are available: First session: July 3 – July 17, 2010; Second session: July 18 - August 1, 2010.


HERACLEA LYNCESTIS
EXCAVATIONS PROJECT

Excavations of the ancient (Hellenistic, Roman, Late Roman) town of Heraclea Lyncestis in Bitola, Macedonia.

Two field school sessions are available: First session: July 3 – July 17, 2010; Second session: July 18 - August 1, 2010.


STOBI (THE CAPITAL CITY OF MACEDONIA SECUNDA) EXCAVATIONS PROJECT

Excavations of the ancient (Late Hellenistic, Roman, Early Byzantine) town of Stobi, Macedonia. Two field school sessions are available: First session: August 7 – August 21, 2010; Second session: August 22-September 5, 2010.


WORKSHOP FOR FOR CHRISTIAN ORTHODOX ICON PAINTING

The workshop is an introduction to the theory, technology and art of the Medieval Orthodox Icon-Painting. It will take place in the town area of Tryavna - famous for its icon-painting style, Bulgaria. Dates: August 15-29, 2010.


WORKSHOP FOR RESTORATION AND DOCUMENTATION OF

ANCIENT GREEK POTTERY

The workshop will guide the participants through the history of ancient Greek pottery, its production and consequent stages of archaeological conservation, documentation, study, and restoration. It will take place in both Emona and Sozopol (ancient Apollonia Pontica) on the Black sea coast, Bulgaria. Dates: September 6-19, 2010.
