I am hiring two PhD candidates for two positions each running for three
years (65% of TV-L 13). The PhD candidate is working together with me in
the EU-funded project “Enhanced Qualitative and Multimethod Research”. The
goal of the project is to develop new tools and techniques for qualitative
research with a particular focus on Qualitative Comparative Analysis (QCA)
and multimethod research. *The candidate should start by 01.05.2017 at the
latest.*
The candidate will be part of the Cologne Center for Comparative Politics (
http://cccp.uni-koeln.de). The PhD thesis should be about a substantive
research question that broadly falls into the field of Comparative
Politics. The idea is that the candidate demonstrates the value of the new
techniques, which are to be developed in the EU-project, in the PhD thesis.
Of course, the candidate is free to use other qualitative and quantitative
methods in the thesis if they are appropriate for answering the chosen
research question.
Applicants should hold a Master degree or an equivalent degree in Political
Science. The applicant should be genuinely interested in social science
methods and contributing to their further development. It is required that
the candidate has at least basic skills in R (intermediate skills or more
would be better) and should show a high motivation to improve the skills if
s/he gets hired.
The application material should be sent by email to i.rohlfing@uni-koeln.de.
The material should include a covering letter, a cv, a transcript of notes
and, if possible, the Master thesis. *The application deadline is
15.02.2017.*
The University of Cologne is an equal opportunity employer and particularly
welcomes applications from people with severe disabilities and female
researchers. See also the job ad as a PDF:
