CfA: Turkish Studies MA program at Sabanci University (2007-2008)

NEW M.A. PROGRAM IN TURKISH STUDIES AT SABANCI UNIVERSITY

The newly-established Turkish Studies MA program at Sabanci University is accepting applications for the 2007-2008 academic year. The first interdisciplinary graduate program in Turkish Studies in Turkey, its primary purpose is to meet the growing international demand for knowledge about Turkish culture, language, history, politics, and economy. With a highly flexible curriculum which capitalizes on the
intellectual and scholarly resources available at one of Turkey¹s leading private universities, the Turkish Studies MA program at Sabanci University offers students a broad range of courses in History, Political Science, Economics, and Cultural Studies. In addition, the curriculum also seeks to meet the needs of those international students who wish to learn Turkish language or improve their existing command of the Turkish language.

The courses offered in the Turkish Studies M.A. Program in Fall 2007 include:
--Social and Economic History of the Ottoman Empire
--Ottoman Reform Movements
--Caucasus and Its Hinterlands: Clans, Ethnicities and Nations in Imperial Borderlands
--The Political Economy of Turkey
-- Issues and Concepts in Post 1960 Turkish Politics
--Turkish Foreign Policy
--Greek-Turkish Relations
--Turkey and the Middle East
--Local Government in Turkey and the EU
--Beginning and Intermediate Ottoman
--Introduction to Turkish.
