Interdisciplinary Conference on Peoples and Cultures in Nigeria
Call for Papers
The crisis of national integration in Nigeria is a function of limited understanding of Nigeria's cultural diversity. The various peoples and ethnic nationalities inhabiting Nigeria's geo-political space are remarkably diverse by just about any measure. They speak an array of languages, practice a variety of religions, develop
different architectural traditions and political systems, and engage in a wide range of socio- economic activities. These vertical and horizontal divides should be properly interrogated in order to appreciate the extent of ethnic diversities and therefore be in a position to develop mechanisms for mutual acceptance, synthesization and national development.
Adeyemi College of Education, Ondo in conjunction with the Nigerian Cultural Studies Network (NCSN) of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife is organizing a two-day conference on the above theme. This conference aims at providing scholarly insights into beliefs, practices, institutions, histories and cultures of the diverse
inhabitants of the political entity now known as Nigeria. The organizers invite scholars from around the world to attend this important conference, which will be held at the Adeyemi College of Education, Ondo, Nigeria. We encourage scholars with different interdisciplinary backgrounds to send in original research results as proposals for presentation. Such proposals should be around the following or related sub-themes:
· Traditions of origin, migrations and settlements
· Traditional economic and financial systems
· Indigenous environmental technology
· Traditional education and socialization processes
· Indigenous legal and judicial processes
· Religion and worldview
· Languages, oral literature and music
· Medicine and healthcare delivery systems
· Inter-group relations
· Popular culture and leisure
· Ethnicity-based stereotyping, ideals and realities
· Gendered ethnicities
All the papers delivered during the conference will be published online and accessible via a customized web page with a link to each paper. Outstanding papers will later be peer-reviewed and published by NCSN immediately after the conference.
