Summer offers a chance to do something different, but it doesn’t mean your education must take a vacation. American University offers exceptional and convenient educational opportunities for summer 2008.
Distinguished by its acclaimed faculty, American University’s programs combine serious academic study with meaningful real-world learning. AU is home to award-winning scholars and highly talented students who are compelled to understand deeply—and influence concretely—how the world works. The university’s long-standing commitment to civic engagement and public service infuses our curricula and campus life.
Summer at AU may be just the ticket to help you get where you are going. Whether you are seeking to accelerate your current program of study, to complete a required course, or to explore an interest through an elective, and whether you are a current AU student or new to the AU community, our summer programs can help open doors to your destinations.
AU’s summer curriculum includes more than 250 courses at the graduate and undergraduate levels from our College of Arts and Sciences and four professional schools—business, communication, international service, and public affairs. Many of these courses are tailored especially for summer and take advantage of the special opportunities and rich resources available only in Washington. In your summer at AU, you can direct your own music video in the Film and Digital Media Institute, discover historic battlegrounds through the Civil War Institute, or craft your own political campaign in the Campaign Management Institute.
For students looking to gain first-hand work experience in the nation’s capital, American University offers internships through the internationally recognized Washington Semester Program. At Washington Semester, students learn by doing. Through the program you can earn academic credit while working amidst the pulse of Washington, meeting public officials and other students from across the country and the world, and learning with professor-mentors who will help to bridge the classroom and the real world.
Or if your schedule prevents you from taking a class in a traditional classroom setting then consider a distance education course. Choose from a wide variety of courses taught entirely online by AU faculty and specially designed for this distance medium, allowing you to participate in a flexible schedule.
A range of pre-college programs tailored to various interests and talents are also available during the summer. In addition to participating in these programs, high school students with a B or better grade point average may enroll as nondegree students in summer-session courses at the 100- or 200-level.
American University invites you to explore a world of exciting, challenging, and diverse learning opportunities this summer. Make AU your gateway to an educational adventure in the nation’s capital and beyond.
