Faculty position, open rank, Sociology and Social Anthropology, CEU
The Department of Sociology and Social Anthropology at the Central European University in Budapest invites applicants for a full-time Open Rank position. The applicant should have a background in Sociology or Social Anthropology with research and teaching expertise in the broad fields of poverty, inequality and/or marginalisation. Candidates with demonstrated ability to apply macro and micro theories and methods in their research are particularly encouraged to apply. The geographical area of research is open, but we particularly welcome candidates who study areas outside of Europe and North America.
The candidates for this position should be dynamic international scholars with a record of publication and teaching in the fields mentioned above. Candidates should have a PhD in either Sociology or Anthropology in hand by start date. All candidates should have thought critically and reflexively about the current state of anthropology and sociology in relation to each other in terms of theory and methods and they should be eloquent in placing their specialization in the broader context of the social sciences. Candidates for a senior rank should be leading international scholars with an established record of publications and research grants.
The teaching load is 12 credits (1 credit equals 12 classroom hours) a year plus supervision of MA theses and doctoral dissertations. Salary and benefits are dependent upon qualifications and experience. The compensation package is subject to Hungarian taxation regulations. The university assists its employees who are not citizens or permanent residents of Hungary in order to obtain a work permit. The position is open from August 2008, the exact start date is negotiable for the right candidate.
