THESEUS Seminar for Young Leaders 2010
"Freedom, security and justice as a common challenge - justice and home affairs in the EU after the treaty of Lisbon"
10.-15.07.2010, Fondation universitaire, Brussels
To promote interdisciplinary and international networks among a new generation of Europeans, each year the THESEUS Seminars look for 20 excellent young professionals and researchers to discuss European challenges with high-level experts and decision makers.
The treaty of Lisbon that came into effect in December 2009 was an important reform step for the European Union. One of the fields that have undergone the most significant changes is the "Area of Freedom, Justice and Security". As it touches upon key competences of the state, it has always been a major issue of debate and dispute.
The THESEUS summer school in Brussels from 10-15 July 2010 will analyse what changes the treaty of Lisbon brought about for the "Area of Freedom, Justice and Security",
assess the challenges for the EU in this policy area in view of efficiency and legitimacy in the years to come, advise on potentials and limits for further cooperation and integration.
Like in last years the seminar will feature speakers and high-level experts from international organisations, business, politics, NGOs, as well as recognised researchers, such as
- Michèle Coninsx, Vice-President of the College, Eurojust, The Hague
- Jaap de Zwaan, Director, Netherlands Institute of International Relations Clingendael, The Hague
- Brendan Donnelly, Director, Federal Trust, London
- Jean-Paul Jacqué, Former director of the legal service of the Council of the European Union, professor at the College of Europe, professor emeritus of the University of Strasbourg
