USA: New Accelerated Executive Master of Business Administration (EMBA) at San Francisco State University

In response to growing demand from companies seeking employees with a business background in sustainability, SF State is expanding its MBA course offerings with an accelerated Executive Master of Business Administration (EMBA) program with a sustainable business emphasis. The first cohort will begin in January 2011.

Our 16-month program will consist of three courses per semester delivered during four consecutive semesters, with an August break. Within each semester, one course will focus specifically on sustainable business, while sustainable business curricula are woven throughout the other courses.

This accelerated program will offer courses that will emphasize management of risk, values-driven leadership and recognizing market opportunities created by environmental and social challenges. In addition, sustainable business curricula will be woven into each class.

SF State's new emphasis will continue to be rooted in business and economic fundamentals, while weaving in issues of sustainable business. The new sustainable emphasis will offer an opportunity for people in business to shift careers or ramp up sustainability experience.

SF State's Downtown Campus location, near the headquarters of some of the largest companies in the world, offers an abundance of opportunities for EMBA students, offering direct access to world headquarters of major operations, non-profits and governmental operations. "We're at the nexus of where the world comes for business. If there was an epicenter for the green industry, it's right in the middle of downtown San Francisco", says EMBA Director Aaron Anderson.

The program expands the College of Business' dedication to ethical and sustainable business education. SF State's MBA program was ranked No. 23 in the U.S. and No. 29 in the world in the Aspen Institute's 2009-10 Beyond Grey Pinstripes survey. The biennial survey measures how well institutions prepare students for environmental, social and ethical complexities of modern-day business.

USA: Internship at Voice of America - Share Your Experience About Studying in U.S.

*INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY AT VOICE OF AMERICA - SHARE YOUR EXPERIENCES ABOUT STUDYING IN THE U.S.*

Deadline to apply: *September 6th, 2010*

Seeking talented and creative writers/reporters to contribute to a blog about student life in the U.S. Voice of America, an international news and broadcasting organization, is looking for a few great contributors to share their experiences, challenges and triumphs with our audience, and to give international students a glimpse into what it's like to study in the U.S.

International students studying in the U.S. are particularly encouraged to apply.

As part of the blog's inaugural writing class, you will have an opportunity to help shape its direction and to experiment with multimedia journalism and innovative forms of storytelling. You will write about all aspects of university life, from the mundane (what is college food like?) to the deep (how do you develop your identity on
campus?) to the fun (what's the social life like?) to the practical (what was the application process like?). The more creative you can be in finding and telling great stories the better.

You will come away with a portfolio of professional writing, and we will work closely with you throughout your internship to help perfect your writing and storytelling skills. Course credit may be available if your university permits it.

You must:
- Have exceptional writing skills. Previous experience in journalism and/or blogging is a plus, but not required. Multimedia skills (video, audio, photography) would also be an asset
- Be a current college/university student (or be applying to college/university this year). International students and American study abroad students are particularly encouraged to apply, but we're looking for people from a range of backgrounds, majors and degree levels (grad and PhD students included)
- Be willing to contribute at least once a month when school is in session
- Be able to commit for at least a semester, preferably for the full year.

We are located in Washington, DC, but you do not need to be local to apply. In fact, we are looking for people from around the country who can provide a variety of perspectives.

To apply:
Submit a cover letter, resume and two writing (or multimedia) samples demonstrating the type of style this project will require to jstahl@voanews. com.

Applications due by Sept. 6 (flexible - if you would like to apply but will not be back at school by this date, send an email indicating your intent to apply and we can accept the application materials later)

Questions? Contact Jessica Stahl - jstahl@voanews. com; 202-203-4954

"A Living Presence": Tagore Today
To be guest edited by Amrit Sen, Visva Bharati, Santiniketan

THE THEME
Rabindranath Tagore's amazing career fulfilled several roles - litterateur, creative artist, pedagogue, social and political theorist, rural reconstructionist, entrepreneur and a major global thinker. Widely travelled, Rabindranath interacted with the foremost global visionaries, offering ideas that combined ethics and economics, artistic creativity, translation, literature and art, critiques of
violence, nationalism and any curtailment of personal freedom.

Tagore's legacy continues to engage us as we stepped into 150 years of his birth, especially forcing us to reexamine our perspectives in more recent disciplines like environmental sciences, alternative education practices, social work, historiography, rural reconstruction and of course globalisation studies. This volume seeks to explore the range of Tagore's ideas by bringing together interdisciplinary articles that evaluate the relevance of Tagore's literature and ideas in the context of the 21st century.

Deadline for Proposals: 17 September 2010*

The theme of the conference is â€Ĺ“New Directions in Cultural Studies†and we are interested in work that addresses the current historical conjuncture, one characterized by crises and uncertainties of all kinds: social, economic, political, cultural, institutional, and intellectual.

In recent years visual culture studies has itself been characterized by theoretical and methodological uncertainty, in fact such uncertainty might be considered â€Ĺ“normal†to it. Of particular note is the relation between new visual technologies and the theoretical modes used to address them. In what manners can studies of visual culture be assembled to address ever-transforming visual cultures? This is a critical issue as elements of visual culture shift toward mobile technologies and user-generated content; however, it is also important as the discrete unity of visual culture as a category is challenged by interactivity and modes in which visuality is but one register of experience. In keeping with the issue of crisis, the Visual Culture Division invites submissions for this session titled "Visual Uncertainty".

Additionally, the Visual Culture Division invites papers for a second session on the visual culture of vampires. This session, titled "Vampiric Visualities", will critically investigate the current vampire craze and its precedents in visual culture. For this session we are particularly interested in submissions from graduate students.

Please submit the following by Friday September 3: your name, email address, phone number, and institutional affiliation; 250-word abstract for the 20-minute paper proposed, including session and paper title; and any required audio-visual equipment. Please send all required information to Division Chair: Randal Rogers (Randal.Rogers@ uregina.ca).
