Researchers/RAs/PhD/Postdoc, ITI of CERTH, Thessaloniki

The Informatics and Telematics Institute (ITI) of the Centre for Research and Technology Hellas (CERTH), invites applications for two (2) researchers (one research assistant / PhD candidate, and one post-doctoral researcher) in the field of image/video analysis and event-based labeling. The positions are part of a research project on the computationally- efficient analysis and annotation of audio-visual content, as well as the linking of parts of the content with other
relevant content items, for the purpose of interweaving TV and Web content into a single integrated experience.

CERTH-ITI is located in Thessaloniki, Greece (http://www.iti.gr/iti/contact.html), about 10 km east of the city centre. ITI is one of the leading Institutions of Greece in the fields of Informatics, Telematics and Telecommunications, with long experience in numerous European and national R&D projects. ITI has participated in more than 50 research projects funded by the European Commission (IST FP5-FP6-FP7) and more than 85 research projects funded by Greek National Research Programmes and consulting cubcontracts with the private sector.

Specifically, researchers are to be recruited for the following positions:

1. Image/video decomposition, representation and matching, with emphasis on computationally- efficient CPU- and GPU-based implementation. Experience in image/video analysis and matching,
machine learning techniques, and GPU programming will be appreciated.

2. Audio-visual content instance- and event-based labeling. Experience in image/video analysis, event detection from multimedia, machine learning techniques, and GPU programming will be appreciated.

Candidates must have a PhD (for post-doctoral researcher applicants) or a Master of Science (for research assistant / PhD candidate applicants) in a related field, a demonstrated record of significant research and the potential to make substantial contributions. They are expected to lead relevant research activities (for PhD holders), develop new research ideas and to interact with the multidisciplinary research environment of the host research team. Applications should

The expected starting date for the positions is in December 2011 / January 2012. Competitive salaries will be offered depending on the qualifications and experience of the applicants. The contract duration will be initially for one year, with the potential for extension to two more years (three in total).
