The Department of Economics at the University of Essex has a world class reputation. In the last Research Assessment Exercise, it was given an excellent 5* rating, and awarded 24/24 for the quality of teaching.
Staff are active and prominent in all areas of economics, editing or contributing to some of the profession's leading journals. The Department provides a lively and enjoyable environment for study, and is able to offer the following funding opportunities:
*University of Essex Scholarships: * The Department is able to provide offer a small number of awards under the University of Essex Scholarships Scheme. The amount of funding available to the Department varies from year to year but typical awards are in the region of *£3,000-5,000* .
Applications should be received by the end of *May 2007.
ESRC* Competition Awards (UK/EU): The Department has three ESRC Quota Awards for 2007/08, either for '1+3' (ie one-year MSc in Economics followed by three-years PhD) or '+3' (three-years PhD). Applications should be received by the end of March 2007.
*Overseas Research Studentship (ORS) Awards*: The Department is also able to nominate up to two exceptionally well qualified overseas students for a UK Government Overseas Research Studentship (ORS) Award. This award covers the difference between overseas and UK/EU fee for three years.
Applications should be received by the end of *January 2007*.
