Topic: Experimental and theoretical study of atomic transport in the ternary bcc phase in the iron-rich corner of the system Fe-Cr-Al.
The project is part of a bigger project in the framework of which the two other partner groups are responsible for measuring thermodynamic properties and for modelling them. The overall goal of the joint investigations is the consistent description/ prediction of chemical diffusion in this important ternary system from experimental data on individual atomic mobilities (tracer diffusion) of the constituents and from carefully checked data on the thermodynamic driving forces.
The project is funded by the German government in phase I for 24 months, with an option to be prolonged by 24 months. Depending on the qualification of the candidate, the maximum salary before tax will amount to 75% BAT IIa (which is about Euro 3500 per month for a 30 year old married person with 2 children).
Basic skills of the candidates required in:
data processing
use of mathematical programs (e. g. Mathematica, Matlab etc.), programming languages
planning and performing experiments.
The candidates should be especially interested in:
solid state physics/physical metallurgy/diffusio n in solids
applied mathematics/ programming.
Educational background required:
Masters degree in physics/materials science or equivalent qalification.
