USA: Scholarship for Women Engineers

The Anne Maureen Whitney Barrow Memorial Scholarship, Society of Women Engineers (SWE)

The Anne Maureen Whitney Barrow Memorial Scholarship, awarded to women in engineering or engineering technology, was established in 1992 by her husband, the late John Barrow, Jr., to honor her memory following her tragic death in a plane crash. Ms. Barrow, who held a B.S. degree in math and an M.S. degree in computer science from the University of Missouri, was widely recognized for having developed the software, which processes for the side-looking radar on the SR71 (Blackbird) spy plan. Ms. Barrow was an active member of the Phoenix SWE Section with a high sense of adventure. She and her husband owned and rode horses, flew small private planes, and owned and raced Corvettes. Prior to her death, Ms. Barrow was in the process of
completing her SCCA GT-1 Competition license, being just one car race short of receiving it. Ms. Barrow epitomized the spirit of perseverance, competence and adventure.
