PhD position in plant molecular genetics

At the Institute of Biology - Applied Genetics, Free University Berlin aPhD position
in plant molecular genetics

is available from May 1, 2009.

Senescence is the final phase of leaf development and critically for the remobilization of nutrients to sink tissues. Senescence is a highly complex and regulated process wherein cells undergo drastic biochemical and structural changes. For the identification of key genes/proteins and regulators that are involved in nitrogen reallocation during leaf senescence in oilseed rape and Arabidopsis we are seeking a highly motivated PhD student to join our young research team (www.angenetik.fu-berlin.de/kunze_eng.html) .

PhD candidates need to hold a diploma/master degree in biology or equivalent qualification. Applicants are expected to have a broad knowledge and adequate laboratory experience in plant molecular biology, genetics and physiology and should have a strong interest in plant nutrition. Knowledge in bioinformatics is an advantage. Good knowledge of English is required.

The position (50% BAT IIa/TV-L E13) is initially funded for three years by the DFG Forschergruppe FOR948 "Nitrogen uptake, metabolism and remobilization in leaves during plant senescence".
