CfP: Social Remembering and Post-Conflict Discourses of Otherness, B

Call for application, M.A. and PhD students:

Invitation to two day seminar onCf

Organizer: Institute for Philosophy and Social Theory, Belgrade (IFDT) in collaboration with The Department of Literature, Area Studies and European Languages, University of Oslo (ILOS).

Participants: M.A. and PhD students of anthropology, sociology, history, political science, philosophy, language and literature from Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia and Montenegro.

Costs: The costs of travel (reimbursement of bus and train tickets) and accommodation will be covered by the organizers.

The seminar is part of a long-term cooperation between IFDT, ILOS and Mediacenter from Sarajevo on a joint research project Spinning out of Control: Rhetoric and Violent Conflict. Representations of 'Self' € ¢รข’ ’³ 'Other' in the Yugoslav Successor States. The project examined discursive practices of representing the Other in the situations of conflict which marked the dissolution of Yugoslavia.

This year seminar's goal is to take an additional step, both time-wise and content-wise, and to explore different discourses of Other which are to be found in new post-Yugoslav states. We are interested in discursive representations of the Other in the post-ethnic conflict period, from the perspective of social remembering, phenomena of fugitives, exile and nostalgia.

The seminar is designed as series of lectures from regional and world renowned researchers on aforementioned topics. Also, seminar will include panels for students to present their own work and to exchange their ideas, regarding the subject matter, with lecturers and fellow students.
