Maastricht University (UM) aims to further strengthen its position as a leading European university offering high-quality education with an international orientation. To this end, the university implements a proactive recruitment policy for international students, in particular for the master’s programmes. Within this framework, scholarships are made available by the UM Scholarship Fund with the aim of encouraging talented students from outside the EEA to follow a master's programme at UM: the UM HIGH POTENTIAL Scholarships.
Who is eligible?
Applicants must be accepted to a UM master's programme or graduate programme for professionals and may be no older than 35 years at the start of the academic year (1 September 2009). Applicants must come from a country outside the EEA and meet the requirements for obtaining a Dutch visa (‘MVV’ residence permit).
Amount of the scholarship
The scholarship is awarded for the duration of the programme, with a maximum of 12 months per academic year. If a two-year master's programme is involved, the UM Scholarship Committee may decide to award the scholarship for a maximum of 24 months.
UM High potential scholarship
-Living expenses per month for a maximum of 12 months: € 800
-Insurance with a maximum of 12 months: € 500 (Arranged and paid by SSC)
-Visa costs: € 438 (Arranged and paid by SSC)
-Refund of tuition fee: € 11,500 (Arranged and paid by SSC)
-Refund of travel expenses: See list (one time only)
Application & selection
You can download the application form here (pdf-file). Applications have to be sent in by 1 April 2009 to the faculty contact person for the UM HIGH POTENTIAL Scholarships.
The faculty will rank the candidates based on quality, and the Faculty Board will send its selection to Student Services. Student Services will then propose a candidate according to the faculty ranking. The UM Scholarship Committee will make the final decision. Applicants will be informed about the decision in writing.
In making its assessment, the UM Scholarship Committee takes all elements of the application into account, including the level of previous study programmes, average grades, duration of the programme, content and originality of the study plan, motivation, status of the foreign institution, the connection with the prior programme, future plans, the proposal and the references.
