Postdoc position in Biophysics, NTNU, Norway

At The Department of Physics, NTNU there is vacant one post doctor position within the project “Responsive (bio)polymer matrices as Fabry-Perot cavities: A versatile platform for development of nanostructured (bio)polymer materials”, funded by the Norwegian Research Council. The position is in the biopolymer physics/bionanotech nology research field, conducted within the Division of Biophysics and Medical Technology at the Department. The project involves cooperation with the research group NOBIPOL at Department of Biotechnology, and will also be carried out in collaboration with international research groups in Grenoble and Tokyo. The post doctor will be appointed for a period of 3 years. The position is related to the national research school “Nanotechnology for microsystems”. The position is organized at Department of Physics. Currently, there are 30 professors, 9 associate professors, 6 adjunct professors, 55 PhD research fellows and 19
postdoctoral positions appointed at the Department.

The current research fields at the Department includes optics, energy and environmental physics, didactic physics, biophysics and medical technology, condensed matter physics, surface science, nanotechnology and theoretical physics. Further information is available at: http://www.ntnu. no/fysikk/ english

The project “Responsive (bio)polymer matrices as Fabry-Perot cavities” deals with determination of high resolution swelling data of responsive, soft (bio)polymer materials by optical interferometry. The experimental approach provides nanometer precision in the determination of the optical length of soft materials. The fundamental technology platform underpins the development of bio-functionalized hydrogels as high resolution sensor materials, and control of barrier selectivity by nanostructured (bio)polymer interfaces. The materials characterization will be performed on (bio)functionalized polymer matrices to be developed, and that are suitable for continuous label-free biosensor applications, and also (bio)polymer coated polymer cores. High precision mechanical characterization of (bio)polymer films coated onto polymer cores is important when aiming at developing barrier functionalities with properties that are optimal for living cell immobilization
and for functional hydrogel responses associated with drug delivery. The research project will also apply complementary methods such as rheology, atomic force microscopy, dynamic force spectroscopy, and others.

We seek highly motivated candidates with a PhD in biophysics, bionanotechnology, biomaterials or related areas.

The appointment of the post doctor fellow will be made according to Norwegian guidelines for universities and university colleges and to the general regulations regarding university employees.

The national labour force must reflect the composition of the population to the greatest possible extent. It is therefore a major political objective to achieve a balance of age and gender and to recruit persons with an immigrant background. Immigrants are encouraged to apply for this post. NTNU wants to increase the proportion of women in its scientific posts. Women are encouraged to apply.

The start salary for the Post doctoral position is set at level 57, NOK 435 500 (before tax) in the Norwegian state salary scale. 2% of the salary will be deducted at source as a mandatory premium to the Norwegian State Pension Fund.
