PhD Studentship in Biochemistry - University of Sheffield

PhD studentship position in "Microfluidic protein and peptide separations -
application to proteomic Department Of Chemical And Process Engineering And
Department Of Engineering Materials
University of Sheffield

Supervisors: Professor Phillip C Wright and Dr Sally L McArthur

Working in part of a large team, this project is concerned with the characterisation of the behaviour of proteins and peptides at liquid-liquid interfaces. The ultimate aim is to incorporating this knowledge into the next generation of high throughput microfluidic technologies for proteomics applications.

You will need to be able to work in a multidisciplinary team. Students should have a good first degree (an hons 2i and above) in a chemical or biochemical science or allied discipline.

Applications from chemical/biochemica l engineers or other scientists (eg surface science and physics) will be considered if you have some strengths/interests in blending biology with engineering. Although the project is mainly experimental, some interest in the modelling side of protein-surface interactions will be an advantage.

This studentship is available immediately for a period of three years.

Applications, with a letter of application and detailed CV, together with the names and addresses of two referees, should be sent to Mr M White, Department of Chemical and Process Engineering, The University of Sheffield, Mappin Street, Sheffield, S1 3JD, UK. Email: M.I.White@sheffield .ac.uk .

Closing date:* 31st December 2006*.
