Job description:

you are part of the thematic group on ‘Impact of Globalisation’ (IG), one of four research groups at IOB. IG mainly works on the consequences of the globalisation phenomenon on development and poverty and, more specifically, on its impact evaluation. Research is carried out both on an academic basis and at the policy advisory level you bring in methodological expertise on impact analysis, in its concrete application to development programmes and policies in the context of globalisation. The focus is on impacts in poorer countries, or the poorer segments of society, and on measuring effects and results you are expected to acquire external funding (national and international) you work in an interdisciplinary environment and you are open to interact with the other groups at IOB, combining different approaches and viewpoints on development management and policy
you are a team player, also performing tasks of a public goods nature, be they at the level of the Institute, the University and society at large you contribute to the policy advisory work of the IG group you teach in the Master programmes of IOB, in the modules on ‘Globalisation and Development’ and ‘Evaluating Development’, to which the thematic group contributes you can also be asked to engage in short-term international training programmes, ad hoc training – including hands-on field instruction - and seminars.

Profile and requirements:

you hold a doctoral degree (Ph.D.) in Political science, Sociology, or (applied) Economics. Other Ph.D. holders will be considered provided they have relevant research experience you can prove interest for and expertise in research on the impact of globalisation on development you can prove teaching abilities • your knowledge of English is excellent, knowledge of French, Spanish or other relevant languages is an asset you must acquire a working knowledge of Dutch at the latest one year after appointment.

We offer:

a full time position as ‘docent’ (level of Lecturer) or in a higher grade, commensurate with the experience and the academic qualifications
the appointment is initially for a period of at the most three years, after which it can become tenured depending on a favourable evaluation
the expected date of appointment is 1st April 2007.
