The Institute of Radiation Physics) of the Research Centre Dresden-Rossendorf has an opening for a PhD position in experimental hadron physics. The hadron physics group has a strong involvement in the HADES project at SIS18/GSI Darmstadt. Within HADES our group has taken responsibility for large drift chambers (built by our group) but moreover for a strong contribution to the data analysis, simulation and interpretation of the HADES data. HADES focuses on investigating in-medium modifications of hadrons in nuclear matter, using strangeness (kaons) and penetrating probes (di-leptons) . Experiments are carried out using proton, pion and heavy ion beams on proton and nuclear targets. Another focus of the group are simulations and state-of-the- art technical developments towards using HADES at the SIS100 synchrotron of the future FAIR facility. This will eventually lead towards the compressed baryon matter (CBM) experiment at FAIR, which will study open and hidden charm production in nucleus-nucleus collisions, investigating a yet unexplored region of the phase diagram of nuclear matter. The applicant is expected to contribute to one or more of the topics mentioned above or related topics.
