WWF, the global conservation organisation, is seeking a Mediterranean Freshwater Policy Officer to be based in the Mediterranean Programme Office in Rome.

The position will support WWF in identifying key policy processes impacting on water ecosystems in the Mediterranean region and planning policy and advocacy actions with the aim of creating a policy context that supports freshwater ecosystem conservation and sustainable management both at the EU level and across the region. A main focus will be given to the European Neighbourhood Policy and to dam investors. The position will also support the general work of the head of freshwater unit. The job
will require extensive networking internal to WWF as well as with a variety of external stakeholders. Extensive travel in the Mediterranean region and to
Brussels will be required.

* Proven wok experience on a relevant issue/s in North African and/or Western Balkan countries for a minimum of 3 years;
* A proven experience in policy and advocacy development, with emphasis in the environmental dimensionof Mediterranean policies;
* University degree in Political Sciences or in Biological or Ecological sciences with a clear interests in Policy & Advocacy;
* A good understanding of north/south relations in the Mediterranean, specifically with regards to the EU Institutions and their decision-making processes on environment, development and external relations policies and associated funding instruments;
* Good knowledge of the EU institutional set up and mechanisms;
* Experience in project/programme design and management;
* Basic knowledge of key freshwater conservations issues in the Mediterranean;
* Knowledge of WWF network an advantage;
* Fluency in spoken and written English and French, additional knowledge of Arabic an advantage;
* Knowledge of the EU Water Framework Directive an advantage;
* European Union citizenship or Italian permit of stay already obtained due to restrictive Italian immigration legislation.

This will be initially a one year contract with potential for extension for further two years. Candidates should submit a letter of application with a general
