Within the framework of the BOF-project "Measuring the impact on traffic safety of traffic and mobility measures using activity-based transportation models", the following vacancy (m/f) has opened up within the Transportation Research Institute (IMOB) of Hasselt Unviversity:
Researcher-Ph. D. student Safety Indicators 2x2 years - reference BEDR/2007/004- HO
Assignment
The aim of this Ph.D. project is to develop a set of traffic safety indicators based on information stemming from the activity-based transportation model and traffic intensities on the traffic network. An indicator is an index number which contains a large amount of information. In contrast with the traditional method of studying accident data (e.g. the number of casualties), here we focus on the underlying level of risk domains (e.g. the number of speed offenders). In order to arrive at a single traffic safety index, a number of steps have to be taken. First of all, a framework needs to be set up around the main risk domains and data needs to be collected and analyzed. Secondly, the separate indicators need to be aggregated into one compound indicator. This research project therefore looks into aspects such as weighing, aggregating, missing data, data imputation and the like.
Profile
The applicant should have sufficient knowledge of quantitative research and data analysis methods.
Qualifications
Master of Business Engineering and Computer Science, Master Statistics, Master Mathematics, Master in Engineering, Master Informatics.
