Connected to your database I would like to inform you and your readers about a summer university programme in Hungary organized by the Faculty of Humanities, University of Pécs in Central European Studies.
The seminar will take place in Pécs between July 27th and August 9th.
Pécs, the fifth largest city of Hungary (approx. 180,000 inhabitants), was founded some 1800 years ago. It is now the administrative, economic and cultural centre of the Trans-Danubian region and hosts the largest university of Hungary.
Central European Studies Summer University (CESUN) is an intensive training programme giving an insight into the region’s history, politics, sociology, economics, artistic and cultural traditions providing its participants with a rich academic and empirical experience in Central European and Hungarian life.
CESUN 2008 participants can choose the orientation of their studies. In addition to a common introductory module, the Minority Issues track offers courses and field studies related to traditional - Roma, German and Croatian - minorities in Central Europe, also present in the region of Pécs. The Archeology track focuses on the history and archeology of Roman and Turkish times in the Carpathian Basin and Hungary.
The language of instruction is English.
The programme will also be available in Hungarian, if demanded by a sufficient number of applicants.
Participants can obtain 9 ECTS credit points for the CESUN programme, and the University of Pécs will issue them a Certificate in Central European Studies.
Deadline for application: 16th June 2008.
