The newly established Unit for eBusiness at the Digital Enterprise Research Institute (DERI: http://www.deri.ie/) of the National University of Ireland, Galway invites applications for a PhD fellowship position.
DERI a leading research institute in semantic technologies offers a stimulating, dynamic and multi-cultural research environment, excellent ties to research-groups worldwide and close collaboration with industrial partners.
The DERI Unit for eBusiness focuses on the application of semantics to business information systems in the key areas of extracting business meaning from information, uncovering meaning within a business context, smarter BIS that can add meaning as they operate along with visualized navigation of business information in a semantically aware and adaptive environment. The unit develops methods that support stakeholder personalization of these approaches with the incorporation of domain semantics as specified in taxonomies, ontologies and other information
management mechanisms. Research is performed in collaboration with other DERI units such as Natural Language Processing and Information Mining and Retrieval.
The PhD fellowship is funded by Science Foundation Ireland and offers for the successful candidate an annual stipend, course fees and conference travel when presenting.
Applicants should hold an excellent primary degree or Masters qualification in a relevant discipline with industrial project experience being a distinct advantage. Applicants should have a strong interest in the area of eBusiness Information Systems and an understanding of semantics and its application use. Applicants must be highly motivated with an ability for independent and critical thought. Successful applicants are expected to combine formal scientific work with application- oriented research and development in collaborative projects funded by national and European funding agencies.
