The Margaret McNamara Memorial Fund (MMMF)

Over the past twenty-five years, the Margaret McNamara Memorial Fund (MMMF) has helped 114 women from 53 developing countries pursue their dream of obtaining a degree to enable them to return to their home countries to work for the benefit of women and children.

The MMMF was founded in 1981 to honor the memory of Margaret Craig McNamara, the wife of Robert S. McNamara, president of the World Bank from 1968-1981. The Fund is affiliated with the World Bank Family Network (WBFN) and is staffed primarily by volunteers. The MMMF Board of Directors makes policy and raises funds, the Selection Committee processes applications, and the Selection Panel selects candidates for grants.

Each year, the MMMF awards grants to women from developing countries engaged in graduate studies in the United States or Canada. The applicants must be at least 25 years of age, must have demonstrated a commitment to work for the benefit of women and children in the developing world, and must plan to return to their countries within two years of receiving the grant. Since 1983, the MMMF has awarded 114 grants totaling $924,400 to women from 53 countries.

The MMMF is a tax-exempt, not-for-profit charity based in Washington, DC. Contributions are tax deductible in the United States.
