Master Scholarship and International Exchange Programmes in Urban Planning

The M.Sc. in Urban Planning is an international postgraduate programme that provides a comprehensive professional training in the theory, method and practice of urban and regional planning. A focus on the planning and management of sustainable cities and regions is an important distinguishing feature of the programme and this focus is reinforced by the research carried out in the Centre itself.

Students from a number of Asian countries are eligible to apply for Asian Development Bank Scholarships which provide financial support covering tuition fees and living expenses. Students in Hong Kong are not eligible for ADB scholarship.

The M.Sc. (Urban Planning) programme has an exchange agreement with School of Environmental Planning in Griffith University, Australia since 1997. We are now finalising exchange agreements with the Bartlett School of Planning in University College London, the School of Architecture in Tsinghua University and College of Architecture and Urban Planning in Tongji University. Admitted students will have the opportunity to study in these universities for a period of one month to one semester once the agreements are signed and endorsed.

The admission requirements for the M.Sc. (Urban Planning) Programme are a Bachelor`s degree with honours from the University of Hong Kong; or, an equivalent qualification from another university or comparable institution. A qualifying examination may be set for selected applicants.

Applicants who do not meet the above admission requirements may in exceptional circumstances be permitted to register if they demonstrate preparation for studies at this level and satisfy the examiners in a qualifying examination.

All Asian Development Bank Scholarship applicants and applicants who do not hold a degree from an institution using English as the language of instruction and/or language of examination are required to obtain a score of 550 or above in the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or a minimum overall band of 6 with no subtest lower than 5.5 in their International English Language Testing System (IELTS).
