Beschreibung:
A postdoc position is available within the project “Hybrid excitations in organic-inorganic semiconductor nanostructures" :
Investigation of energy transfer processes and nonlinear optical properties.
The project is part of the Centre of Excellence (Sfb) 448 “Mesoscopically organised composites”.
Today’s semiconductor technology is dominated by inorganic materials like GaN or GaAs. On the other hand, there are organic semiconductors like conjugated polymers or small molecules which attract increasing attention. Both types of materials have their specific advantages and consequently respective application fields. A new approach which we pursue in this project is to combine organic and inorganic semiconductors in a hybrid structure to benefit from favourable properties of both material classes. This will lead to an enhanced performance of light-emitting or laser diodes, photovoltaic cells and non-linear optical devices. The hybrid structures consist of ZnO-based quantum wells covered by an organic molecular layer. ZnO is a semiconductor which is currently intensively studied due to its potential for light-emitting applications in the UV and visible range.
The challenges consist in the mastering of the structural and electronic properties of the organic-inorganic interface and in the realisation of efficient excitation energy or charge transfer at the interface. The candidate will be involved in the preparation of the hybrid structures. Both, ZnO quantum wells and the organic layer are grown by molecular beam epitaxy. Moreover, he/she will be responsible for the structural characterisation of the interface by scanning probe microscopy and the optical characterisation of the hybrid structures by cw and time-resolved spectroscopy also in confocal geometry.
It is desirable that the candidate has some experiences with organic semiconductors and experimental methods mentioned. The position starts on April 1, 2007 and ends December 31, 2009. For more information, please visit: http://photonik. physik.hu- berlin.de/
