Beschreibung:
The Institute for Experimental and Applied Physics of the Christian-Albrecht- University in Kiel, Germany, is seeking candidates for three positions to aid us in developing the Ionizing Radiation Sensor (IRAS) for ESA's ExoMars mission:

a) an experienced PhD in physics (to be filled at the level of E 14 TV-L)

He/She will conduct the development, project management, and scheduling, as well as plan and execute tests and calibration of the instrument.

He/She should be experienced in nuclear and high-energy particle physics and corresponding numerical methods (e.g., GEANT-4) and have excellent laboratory and programming skills. A good command of English and demonstrated experience in project management is expected.

The position is funded from November 1, 2007 through December 31, 2011. If mutually agreed, a later starting date is acceptable.

b) two graduate-student positions (to be filled at the level of E 13 TV-L (50%))

The graduate students will perform detailed simulations of the sensor head and related electronics, execute tests and calibration runs, simulate radiation transport through the Martian atmosphere, and characterize sensor-head components. Both positions offer the possibility of obtaining a PhD. Candidates should have a Master or Diploma degree in physics, good knowledge of nuclear and high-energy physics, know correpsonding numerical methods (GEANT-4), have good programming and laboratory skills as well as a good command of English. Both positions are limited to a three-year duration and can start no earlier than December 1, 2007.

Interested candidates should send their application to Prof. Dr. R. F. Wimmer-Schweingrube r, IEAP/CAU, Leibnizstr. 11, D-24118 Kiel, Germany, phone: (+)49 431 880 3964, email: wimmer@physik. uni-kiel. de
