PhD Position: LES-DNS of liquid metal turbulent flows Job description: At Institute for Nuclear and Energy Technologies (IKET) a PhD fellowship in computational modelling of liquid metal turbulent flows is available.
The project aims to reveal better understanding of liquid metal turbulence. Analytical and numerical studies will be used to investigate turbulent heat and mass transfer in liquid metals. The research will be carried out within a cooperation between IKET, University Karlsruhe and partners from the Industry.
The focus will be on:
Development and implementation of a combined Large Eddy Simulations (LES) and direct numerical simulations (DNS) method. Numerical predictions of turbulent heat and mass transfer in liquid metals.

Qualification: The candidate that we are looking for has M.Sc. (Diploma) degree in one of the following fields: engineering, physics or mathematics. is ranked among the top 20% of his/her class during BSc and MSc studies. has a strong interest in fundamental scientific research, mathematical modelling and scientific computing.
has experience with UNIX/Linux and C/C++. has solid basis in (computational) fluid mechanics and transport phenomena. is fluent in spoken and written English.
Salary: Remuneration shall be based on the Tarifvertrag für den Öffentlichen Dienst (Collective Agreement for the Public Service Sector).
