Applications are invited for two PhD / Research Associate Positions (starting at the earliest possible time) at the Institute for Physical and Theoretical Chemistry, University of Saarland, Saarbruecken, Germany.
The positions are funded via the German Research Council (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinsch aft, DFG) and the projects are devoted to the development and application of theoretical methods and accompanying computer codes for the determination of structural, energetic, electronic, vibrational, and thermodynamic properties of clusters with up to 100-200 atoms. The funding is available for 2-3 years with extensions possible up to 4 years. There is the possibility to do PhD Theses within the projects. The salary payment group is: TV-L E13/2 (former BAT IIa/2) - the exact amount depends on age and experience. There is no age limit for the applicants.
The candidates should have a Diploma/MSc in Physics, or Chemistry, or Materials Science and have a solid background in one or more of the following areas: theoretical chemistry, quantum mechanics, or computational physics and programming. It is expected that the candidates will also participate in the teaching activities of the group, most notably in supervising undergraduate students in a lab course in physical chemistry. Therefore knowledge of the German language at least at the low-intermediate level is required.
